Felony court news

Probation violation
A Portland man was found in violation of his probation recently in Jay Superior Court.
Kyle Hibbard, 20, was sentenced Nov. 6 to an additional 200 days of the 18-month sentence originally imposed in an April 2013 case of theft, a Class D felony, after committing the crime of disorderly conduct in August and failing to pay court costs, probation administration fees and monthly probation user fees. He was given 152 days credit for 76 days served and began serving the remaining 48 days in Jay County Jail on Nov. 6.

Continuance granted
A Portland man’s jury trial was rescheduled in Jay Circuit Court.
Matthew Schlechty, 32, is charged with dealing in methamphetamine, a Class A felony, after allegedly manufacturing methamphetamine within 1,000 feet of a youth program center, John Jay Center for Learning, in June.
The two-day jury trial is reset for 8:30 a.m. Jan. 22, after vacating the original Dec. 4 trial to allow time for depositions.
