SAHS records fall at Norwell

OSSIAN — The Starfires girls swim team set four school records Saturday while finishing second at the Norwell Invitational.
Bishop Dwenger won the invite with 280 points, and South Adams scored 197 points to edge third-place Oak Hill by seven.
The 200-yard medley relay team of Brette Klopp, Cady Farlow, Ashton Klopp and Olivia Von Gunten set new school and pool records with their time of 1 minute, 54.92 seconds, beating the previous pool record by more than one second.
Ashton Klopp then went on to set new marks in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly, in 2:01.78 and 1:00.86 respectively.
Farlow also broke a Starfire swimming record in the 100 freestyle with a time of 55.28 seconds, and set a pool record in the 100 breaststroke, touching the wall in 1:07.76.
Brette Klopp took first in the 200 individual medley and 100 backstroke, giving SAHS victories in six individual events.
Von Gunten earned a pair of sixth place finishes in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke, and Mayia Curtis was sixth in the 500 freestyle.


Blackford beats SA
HARTFORD CITY — The South Adams girls basketball team wasn’t able to overcome a first-quarter deficit in an 49-37 season-opening loss Saturday to the Blackford Bruins.
Blackford’s Faith Morris scored 13 of her game-high 22 points in the first quarter, helping the host Bruins to a 16-7 lead after eight minutes.
South Adams (0-1) got within seven late, but could not complete the rally against Blackford (2-0).
Junior Sydney Willis led the Starfires with 19 points. Sharon Balsiger chipped in with six points and Cindy In’t Groen had five and Lexi Dellinger tallied four.
Blackford’s junior varsity team also won, 36-33.
