Omstead leads Chiefs

Gwen Omstead scored 13 points to help the East Jay Middle School eighth grade girls basketball team to a season-opening, 41-32 victory Monday against Norwell.
East Jay’s seventh grade team lost to the Knights, 24-6.
Sammie Twigg and Klarissa Hemmelgarn both scored seven points for the Chief eighth graders, who had a two-point lead after three quarters before pulling away in the fourth. Hanna Dillon and Kendra Muhlenkamp chipped in with six points apiece, and Hannah Phillips had two.
Mikele Suman led the EJMS seventh graders with four points, and Mackynzie Fairchild had two points.

OSSIAN — Despite a 16-point combined effort from the Schlechty twins, East Jay’s eighth grade boys basketball team fell Monday to host Norwell, 35-33.
The Knight seventh graders held the Chiefs to single digits in a 32-8 victory.
Michael and Ryan Schlechty both scored eight points for the Chiefs, with Korbin Auker and Matthew Franks contributing six and five points respectively. Clint Coy, Isaac Moeller and Parker Grimes each chipped in with two points.
Noah Arbuckle led the EJMS seventh graders with four points, and Ethan Corwin and Brayden Sprunger both had two points.
