Right angle collision
A Dunkirk man and a Ridgeville man were involved in a collision this morning in Richland Township.
Larry Sargent, 21, 121 W. Jay St., Dunkirk, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was traveling east on county road 400 South, when he stopped the 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix he was driving at the intersection of Ind. 1. He told officers he didn’t see another vehicle traveling north on Ind. 1 and proceeded into the intersection, colliding with a 1993 Ford Ranger driven by Robert Hopkins, 43, 5645 W. 800 North, Ridgeville.
The Pontiac is registered to Alan Sargent, same address.
Donna Duty, 53, 225 Railroad St., Dunkirk, was a passenger in the Pontiac and was transported to IU Health Ball Memorial for pain in her elbow and lower arm.
Damage in the 5:19 a.m. accident was estimated to be between $5,000 and $10,000.

Ice accidents
Three area residents were recently involved in car accidents caused by ice.
A Portland man was involved in a collision Monday evening in Jefferson Township.
Kyle Frazee, 25, 2754 W. 200 South, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was traveling west on county road 200 South, near county road 700 West, when he lost control of the vehicle on the ice-covered road. The 2001 Chevrolet 2KH, registered to Jay School Corporation, 404 E. Arch St., Portland, ran off the south side of the road into a ditch, causing the vehicle to flip onto its passenger side.
He was treated at the scene for scrapes on his elbow and lower arm.
Damage in the 5:30 p.m. accident was estimated to be between $2,500 and $5,000.
A Berne man was involved in a collision Thursday morning in Pike Township.

Matthew Tomano, 35, 716 Forest Park Drive, was traveling south on U.S. 27, south of county road 700 South, when the road went from dry to ice covered. Tomano told officers he lost control of the 2003 Chevrolet Silverado, registered to Lonnie Stout, 1667 W. 300 North, Portland, and went off the east side of the road into a ditch. A trailer attached to the vehicle broke loose and rolled over, stopping on its wheels on a fence.
The fence belongs to Clair Bye, 7349 S. U.S. 27, Portland.
Damage in the accident was estimated to be between $1,000 and $2,500.
A Portland man was involved in a collision Thursday afternoon in Greene Township.
Nick Young, 67, 65 Sesame St., Portland, told officers he was traveling on Foxfire Drive, near county road 125 South, when his 2002 Hyundai Elantra hit a patch of ice. The ice didn’t allow him to turn the vehicle, which then collided with a tree.
Damage in the 3:10 p.m. accident was estimated to be between $1,000 and $2,500.

Head on collision
A Portland woman witnessed and reported a collision this morning in Portland.
Jodi Franks, 405 S. Western, Ave. told officers she heard a large crash followed by a car alarm outside of her home, located near Third Street. She said she walked out of her house and saw a dark colored SUV drive north on Western Avenue and then turn west onto Water Street. She told officers she could hear a car alarm for several minutes.
The SUV had allegedly hit a parked 1990 Chevrolet pickup, registered to James Humbles, 711 W. Third St., Portland.
Portland Police Department officers later found the SUV to be a 1996 Dodge Ram Pickup, which was allegedly driven by Nathan Scott, 26, 6769 W. 400 South, Portland. Scott was given a breathalyzer test, which showed an alcohol concentration equivalent of 0.22 percent.
He was arrested and preliminarily charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated, a Class A misdemeanor, failure to stop after an accident, a Class C misdemeanor, and operating a vehicle with an alcohol concentration equivalent of 0.15 percent or more, a Class A misdemeanor.
Damage in the 3:44 a.m. accident was estimated to be between $5,000 and $10,000.
