Deer collisions
Two Portland men were involved in deer accidents Friday in Jay County.
Chad LeMaster, 40, 2756 Ind. 67 West, was driving west on Ind. 67, east of Ind. 26, when a deer entered the roadway. LeMaster told officers he was unable to avoid hitting the animal with the 2014 Ford F/E he was driving.
The Ford was registered to Donlen Trust, 5925 Nall Ave., Suite 100, Mission, Kansas.
Damage in the 1:40 p.m. accident was estimated to be between $2,500 and $5,000.
Michael Saint, 32, 610 W. Race St., was driving west on Ind. 67 near Bryant, when a deer entered the roadway. He told officers he was unable to avoid hitting the deer with his 2004 Toyota Corolla.
Damage in the 7:50 p.m. accident was estimated to be between $1,000 and $2,500.
Vehicle fire
A Decatur man reported a fire Friday evening in Jefferson Township.
Christopher Westergren, 7353 N. 300 West, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office his motorcycle, a 2005 Honda VTX 1300, was running in the driveway of 4277 S. 250 West, when it caught on fire. The fire was contained, but the motorcycle was damaged.
The value of the motorcycle is $5,500.
The fire was reported at 5:48 p.m.
