East Jay football teams beat Woodlan Warriors
Middle school roundup
The East Jay Middle School seventh and eighth grade football teams both beat the visiting Woodlan Warriors on Tuesday.
East Jay’s eighth graders won 35-0, and the seventh graders were victorious, 24-13.
Michael and Ryan Schlechty both scored a pair of touchdowns for the EJMS eighth graders, as the twins combined to rush for more than 200 yards.
Daniel Ostrowski also found the end zone on a 65-yard run.
Thomas Hemmelgarn had a fumble recovery and a sack.
MaCuly LeMaster and Brian Newman both scored touchdowns for the seventh grade Chiefs, with LeMaster finding the end zone from 55 yards out and Newman reaching paydirt from the 7-yard line, and totaled 45 rushing yards.
Gabe Link returned a fumble recovery 45 yards for the other score.
Ethan Corwin also recovered a fumble for East?Jay.
With the victories, he seventh graders are 5-1, and the eighth grade team moved to 4-2.
Eagle spikers top SW
PONETO — Halle Hill and Kymia Hankins led the West Jay seventh grade volleyball team to a 25-15, 25-19 win over the host Southern Wells Raiders on Tuesday.
Hill and Hankins both had seven service points, five of which were aces.
Allison Jobe notched seven points with two aces, and Hallie Fields had five points and three aces.
The WJMS eighth graders lost to the Raiders, 11-25, 25-21, 15-13.
Randi Ferguson served the Eagles to 16 points, and added six kills.
Kendal Garringer was second on the team with seven points, and Karlie Bullard and Rhegan Shimp both recorded six points.
East?Jay 7th wins
UNION CITY — Elyse Bost had eight aces on her way to 12 service points, helping the East Jay seventh grade volleyball team to a 25-19, 20-25, 15-13 win over West Side on Tuesday.
Logan Poore joined Bost in double digits with 10 service points and Britney Mullins tallied three aces.
Kassidy Fennig and Macey Weitzel both also had a pair of aces, Emma James notched three kills and Weitzel added two.
Tigers top Chiefs
The East Jay sixth grade A and B volleyball teams both lost to the Yorktown Tigers on Tuesday.
East Jay’s A team lost 25-13, 25-8, and the B team fell 25-12 in a one-game match.
Alana Kunkler had four points and three kills to lead the A team.
Pacie Denney tallied two points, and Natalie Miles and Lexie Ferguson both had one point.
Kearston Myers and Denney also tallied an assist.
Maria Dirksen had four points for the B team, and Olivia Rowles recorded the only kill for the Chiefs.
SAMS still perfect
BERNE — Nick Steuber scoured four touchdowns Tuesday, helping the South Adams seventh grade football team to a 31-7 victory over the Adams Central Jets.
The SAMS eighth grade team lost, 26-13.
Steuber scored on runs of 59, 45 and 41 yards, and added a 35-yard touchdown reception from Collin Shaffer, who also found the end zone on a 45-yard scamper. Steuber rushed for 155 yards on only five carries, and Shaffer carried the ball three times for 90 yards.
Also playing for the seventh-grade team, Shaffer tossed a 58-yard touchdown pass to Grant Pesser, and Drake Deitsch scored on a 69-yard run.
The Starfire seventh graders move to 5-0 on the season, while the eighth graders are 0-5.
