Patriots fall in season finale

DECATUR — Jay County High School’s boys tennis team lost in its regular season finale Tuesday, 5-0 to the Bellmont Braves.
The Patriots’ No. 1 doubles team of Jay Houck and Adam Jutte played in the closest match of the evening before falling 6-3, 6-4 to Bellmont’s Logan Baker and Ryan Okoniewski. At No. 2 doubles, Ben Fullenkamp and Conner Hess beat Jay County’s Garrett Rodgers and Sok Vormohr, 6-3, 6-0.
Patriot seniors Zach Pryor and Alex Krieg were defeated at No. 1 and No. 2 singles respectively. Evan Selking beat Pryor 6-3, 6-1 and Krieg lost to Alex O’Campo 6-0, 6-3.
At No. 3 singles, JCHS junior Alex Clark fell to Sid Peterson, 6-1, 6-2.
The Patriots host the Randolph Southern Rebels at 5 p.m. tonight in the Sectional 27 semifinal. The Winchester Golden Falcons and Union City Indians square off in the other semifinal match, with the winners advancing to the championship at 5 p.m. Thursday.­­

SA girls win ACAC
MONROE — The Starfires are champions again.
With a pair of victories Tuesday night against Jay County and Adams Central, the South Adams girls cross country team won the regular-season Allen County Athletic Conference championship.
It is the first conference title since 2009 for the Starfire girls.
South Adams beat Adams Central 15-50 and Jay County 18-43. The Starfire boys also picked up a pair of victories, 21-38 against the Jets and 16-45 against Jay County.
Jay County’s girls team beat Adams Central 22-33, and the ACHS boys topped Jay County 19-45.
Olivia Von Gunten and Kara Seffernick placed first and second respectively for the Starfires. Aleesha Goodwin was fourth, Katelin Hawbaker finished fifth and Hadi Hawbaker placed sixth.
Bailey McIntire, David Steffen and Sawyer Miller occupied the top three spots for the South Adams boys. Briar Goodwin placed seventh, and Wyatt Miller was ninth.

Jay County results were not available.

SA falls to Woodlan
WOODBURN — South Adams’ volleyball team couldn’t pull off a road victory Tuesday, losing to the host Woodlan Warriors 25-17, 25-17, 16-25, 25-15.
Morgan Alberson, Kylie Grabau and Cindy In’tGroen all had seven kills for South Adams, which falls to 9-12 on the season. Alberson also had 16 digs to go with her team-high six blocks.
Lauren Smith tallied 17 digs, and Emma Rosswurm recorded 23 assists. Caralie Farlow and Kylea Pierce both notched 10 digs.
The South Adams junior varsity team beat Woodlan, 25-20, 25-20.
Madi Wurster had six kills, Sydney Pierce tallied six digs, and Chastity Guereca had seven assists. Casi Evans, Katrina Fosnaugh and Wurster had four digs apiece.

Fort freshmen win
ST. HENRY, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s freshman volleyball picked up a Midwest Athletic Conference victory Tuesday, beating the St. Henry Redskins 26-24, 14-25, 27-25.
Kiah Wendel and Sydney Dues shared the team high in kills with eight apiece, and Wendel also led the Indians in assists (eight) and aces (seven).
Briget Pottkotter notched seven digs and a pair of blocks, and Lydia Schmitz had five kills.
