Jay Co. rallies to beat Eagles

CONVERSE — After falling behind 2-0 to the Golden Eagles, a pair of seniors and a freshman made sure the Patriots would win their season finale.
Patriot senior Jalen Ryder notched his fourth goal of the season in the second half, propelling the Jay County High School boys soccer team to a come-from-behind, 3-2 victory against host Oak Hill on Saturday.
Ryder assisted on Zaaron Lee’s first-half score, and senior Alex Abbott found twine for his 18th goal of the season to tie the game 2-2 in the first half.
It was Lee’s third goal of his freshman campaign and Ryder’s second assist of the year. Trevor Moeller had four saves in goal for the Patriots.
Jay County (6-8-1) ended its season on a three-game winning streak after dropping four in a row. It opens the Class 2A Sectional 15 tournament at 5:30 p.m. tonight against the Delta Eagles at Yorktown Sports Plex. The Patriots beat the Eagles 4-3 at home on Aug. 28.
Squires top Stars

BERNE — The Manchester Squires scored three goals in the second half, handing the South Adams High School girls soccer team a 3-0 loss in its season finale.
The visiting Squires scored 6:25 into the second half to break the scoreless tie, and added another goal 77 seconds later to nab a 2-0 lead. South Adams held Manchester to just one shot in the next 20 minutes before the Squires added an insurance goal with 12:30 left in the game.

Fort JV falls
FORT RECOVERY — In a battle of unbeatens, the Fort Recovery junior varsity football team was at the losing end of a 20-6 score Saturday against Coldwater Cavaliers.
The Indians trailed 14-0 at halftime, finally breaking the shutout after intermission when Brandon “Speedy” Schoen scored on a 61-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Braun.

Freshmen go 2-1
ROCKFORD — Fort Recovery’s freshman volleyball squad went 2-1 Saturday at the Parkway Invitational.
The Indians sandwiched wins against the St. Henry Redskins and the Minster Wildcats around a loss to the Versailles Tigers.
Kiah Wendel posted team highs in kills (11) and digs (25) for the Indians, while also adding three blocks and four aces. Sydney Dues tallied six kills and 22 digs, and Briget Pottkotter had four blocks to go with her three kills.
