Jay County grad earns award
Taking note
Linda (May) Hurst, a 1976 graduate of Jay County High School, was the recipient of the Nursing Distinguished Alumni Award from the University of Wisconsin Green Bay Professional Program in Nursing.
Hurst earned her bachelor’s degree in nursing in 1990 from UWGB and also has master’s degrees in nursing and business administration.
She is a Certified Clinical Transplant Coordinator at Mayo Clinic Arizona Transplant Center and was nominated for the award by her supervisor there. She is also an adjunct faculty member at Grand Canyon University.
Lab fest
Mercer Health’s Fall Lab Fest will be held from 7 to 10:30 a.m. Oct. 25 at Mercer County Community Hospital in Coldwater, Ohio.
Available will be lipid profile/cardiac risk screenings (12 hour fast required) for $20, a comprehensive metabolic health panel, including glucose (two hour fast required) for $25, complete blood count with anemia screening for $10, C-reactive protein-hs for $20, hemoglobin A1C diabetes screening for $25, prostate screening for $30 thyroid screening (TSH and T4), for $40 Vitamin D screening for $35. Flu shots will be given for $30 and free colorectal cancer test kits will be available.
Pediatrician Dr. Julia Eckert will present the program “Correcting Immunization Misconceptions” from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Oct. 27 at Mercer Health West Campus, 800 W. Main St., in Coldwater, Ohio.

Free screenings
Free breast cancer exams will be given from 8 to 11 a.m. and 5 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 28 at Community Medical Center, 950 S. Main St., Suite 1, in Celina, Ohio.
The exams don’t include mammograms.

Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Fort Recovery will have a flu shot clinic from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. on Oct. 22.
