Chiefs defeat Driver

WINCHESTER — Daniel Ostrowski and Mitchell Langenkamp both had a pair of touchdowns Thursday, leading the East Jay eighth grade football team to a 44-22 victory against Winchester Driver.
The EJMS seventh graders also picked up a victory, shutting out the host Hawks, 21-0.
Ostrowski scored on runs of 20 and 60 yards as the Chiefs raced out to a 22-8 lead at halftime. Langenkamp reached the end zone on a 55-yard scamper and a 75-yard kickoff return.
Michael and Ryan Schlechty both added touchdown runs.
Hunter Mills racked up 120 yards rushing and a score for the seventh graders, with Brian Newman adding a touchdown on 50 yards rushing. Gabe Link found Logan Duran for a 10-yard TD.
West Jay boys third
Matthew Paquette and Daniel Fugiett finished eighth and ninth respectively, as the West Jay Middle School boys cross country team placed third at Union City.
Monroe Central was first with 21 points, and Muncie Northside was second with 60. West Jay scored 96 points.
The WJMS girls did not qualify for a team score.
Paquette crossed the finish line in 13 minutes, 32 seconds, two seconds ahead of Fugiett.
Ian McCombs (21st), Ethan Andreshak (28th) and Logan Brown (32nd) scored for the Eagles, and Dallas Workman (34th) also ran.
Sophie Fugiett placed second for the girls team. Following her were Lexus Harding (eighth), Lilly Clemmons (11th) and Catherine Stafford (23rd).
Panthers top Chiefs
East Jay’s seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams dropped matches Thursday to the Muncie Southside Panthers.
The EJMS eighth graders lost 11-25, 25-19, 15-12, and the seventh graders were defeated 25-20, 25-14.
Sarah Walter served the East Jay eighth graders to seven points, while also tallying four aces and adding five kills. Kailee Denney and Hannah Phillips both had seven points, with Denney recording four aces.
Gwen Omstead notched five kills, and Hanna Dillon chipped in with four kills.
For the EJMS seventh graders, Logan Poore totaled 11 points, five aces and three digs. Elyse Bost and Britney Mullins both had a pair of service points, and Macey Weitzel tallied three kills.

DUNKIRK — In their last regular season match, the West Jay volleyball teams defeated the Adams Central Flying Jets on Thursday.
The Eagles eighth graders won 25-22, 25-21, and the seventh graders had a 25-11, 17-25, 15-8 victory.
Allison Jobe had team highs in service points (17) and aces (eight) for the seventh graders. Halle Hill recorded seven points and four aces, and McKall Norris had two aces on her way to seven points.
Calli Stigleman notched seven kills, and Hallie Fields and Norris each added one.
Rhegan Shimp and Kendal Garringer had five and four aces respectively while serving the Eagles to 11 points apiece. Molly Ault notched nine points and four aces, and Shimp added three digs.
