Dunkirk plant wins Energy Star
Business Roundup
Dunkirk’s Ardagh Group glass container plant has been awarded an Energy Star plant certification for superior energy performance from the Environmental Protection agency.
Four other Ardagh Group plants — Burlington, Wis.; Madera, Calif.; Milford, Mass.; and Sapulpa, Okla. — also received the Energy Star plant certifications.
The five were the only U.S. glass container facilities to earn the EPA recognition.
“Ardagh Group is honored to be recognized,” said John Riordan, president and chief executive officer of Ardagh Group’s North American Glass division, said in a prepared statement. “We’ve made significant contributions across our organization to embrace energy efficiency and achieve company-wide sustainability initiatives, and this award proves our hard work and dedication to these processes and procedures.
The five facilities have improved energy performance by upgrading and optimizing glass furnaces, using recycled glass, installing energy-efficient lighting and repairing air compressors.
Commercial buildings that earn the EPA’s Energy Star certification use an average of 35 percent less energy than typical buildings and are responsible for 35 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions. Since 1999, EPA has recognized energy efficiency in more than 24,000 commercial buildings.
Eight of Ardagh Group’s North American glass facilities have received 18 certifications since 2010.

Hospital nixes
UnitedHealthcare
Beginning April 15, Parkview Health will not longer work with UnitedHealthCare, The Journal Gazette reported this week.
The Fort Wayne hospital is urging patients to review their insurance coverage and make any needed changes.
Parkview contends UnitedHealthCare breached its contract when it launched a Medicare supplement plan that has Lutheran Health Network as the preferred provider.
