Arts place to offer classes
Taking Note
Arts Place in Portland is accepting registrations for art classes that will begin on Nov. 3 and continue through Dec. 19.
A wheel throwing class is offered 5 to 7 p.m. on Mondays, and a hand building clay class is set for 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesdays.
The classes, taught by Mary Boetgger, are $95 each and are for ages 13 and older.
Ashley Austerman will teach a teen drawing and painting class from 5:30-7 p.m. on Thursdays. It is $50 and ages 12 to 18 are welcome.
Oil painting will be 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesdays with Steve McClung. The cost is $90.
Barbie Stump will teach silk painting from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Mondays. The class is $90.
A card making class, taught by Heidi Bouse, will be 6 to 8 p.m. on Oct. 15. The cost is $5 to create three cards.
Christina Williamson will teach balloon art from 4 to 5 p.m. on Dec. 5. The class is $10.

Trick-or-Treat Night
“Merchant Trick-or-Treat Night” is scheduled for 5 to 7 p.m. on Oct. 31 in downtown Portland. All Portland and Jay County businesses can participate.
Businesses not located in the downtown area may set up in the Community Resource Center.
Call the Jay County Chamber of Commerce at (260) 726-4481, by Oct. 24, to be added to the map. The cost is $20.
Painting class
Arts Place Blackford County Center, 107 W Washington St., Hartford City, will host an evening of acrylic painting from 6:30-9:00 p.m. Oct. 25. The cost is $25 per person.
The event is for beginners and intermediate painters and will have refreshments and wine.

The JayCPL Book Club will discuss the book “The Ocean at the End of the Lane” by Neil Gaiman at 7 p.m. Monday at Jay County Public Library, 315 N. Ship St.. in Portland.
Friends of the Library will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. and Hooks and Needles Club will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 28. Bring projects and supplies.
Book sale
Winchester Community Library, 125 N. East St., will host its semi-annual book sale Nov. 6, 7 and 8.
