Deer struck
A Portland man was involved in a deer accident Sunday in Jefferson Township.
Travis Slack, 19, 3386 E. Division Road, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was traveling west on county road 400 South near county road 425 West when a deer entered the roadway.
He was unable to avoid hitting the animal with the 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix he was driving.
The Grand Prix is registered to David Slack, same address.
Damage in the 4:15 p.m. accident was estimated to be between $1,000 and $2,500.
Pole struck
A Westfield man was involved in an accident Sunday morning in Jackson Township.
Patrick Griffin, 28, 3714 Challenger Drive, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was traveling west on Ind. 18 near county road 250 West when he fell asleep. The side of the 2013 Peterbilt Motors semi he was driving struck a pole owned by Jay County REMC.
The semi is registered to Xpress Leasing, 1535 New Hope Church Road, Tunnel Hill, Ga.
The 7:50 a.m. accident caused an estimated $2,500 to $5,000 of damage to the pole and semi.
Ran of the road
A Dunkirk teenager was involved in an accident Sunday morning in Richland Township.
Mason Cochran, 17, 214 E. Walnut Ave., told a sheriff’s deputy he was westbound on county road 400 South near county road 1100 West when a deer ran into the roadway. He swerved to avoid hitting the animal, and the 2005 Pontiac Grand Am he was driving went of the roadway and struck a utility pole.
The Grand Am is registered to Daniela Shumaker, same address.
Frontier Telephone owns the utility pole.
The 1:15 a.m. accident caused an estimated $2,500 and $5,000 of damage to the utility pole and car.
Vehicle rolls
A Pennville teenager was involved in an accident Friday in Noble Township.
Colton Bost, 17, 6770 W. 300 North, told a sheriff’s deputy he was traveling west on county road 300 North west of county road 500 East when a deer entered the roadway. He swerved to miss it and the 2001 Chevrolet Silverado he was driving went of the road and rolled in a ditch.
The Silverado is registered to John Bost, same address.
Damage in the 11:57 p.m. accident was estimated to be between $10,000 and $25,000.
Automobile stolen
A rural Portland man reported a theft to Jay County Sheriff’s Office Sunday morning.
Dylan Sutter, 2325 S. 400 West, told the sheriff’s office his 2006 red Ford Fusion was stolen.
The car always sits in his driveway with the keys in it, he said. He first noticed it missing at 3 a.m., and the vehicle was located at 7 a.m.
Scott earns
City of Portland clerk-treasurer Mickey Scott recently earned her Indiana Accredited Municipal Clerks certification.
Scott has served as clerk-treasurer for the city since 2012.
