BERNE — The South Adams High School volleyball team ended its regular season on a winning note Monday.
The Starfires defeated the visiting Fort Wayne South Side Archers on senior night, 25-7, 25-23, 25-12.
Lauren Smith, the only Starfire senior, tallied two kills and six digs. Morgan Alberson led the Stars with four kills, and Caralie Farlow and Casi Evans shared the team high in aces with five.
Julie Grabau totaled nine assists, and Cindy In’tGroen notched two blocks.
The SAHS junior varsity team also won, 25-12, 25-12. Shania Neal recorded eight kills, Sydney Pierce had 10 digs and Chastity Guereca notched 17 assists.
Evans also contributed six aces and five kills.
South Adams begins sectional play at 7:30 p.m. Thursday against Woodlan in Bluffton.

Patriot football falls
Jay County’s junior varsity and freshman football teams both lost in their season finale Monday.
The JV Patriots lost to Heritage Patriots, 22-14, and the freshmen dropped a 22-8 score to the Mississinewa Indians.
Holton Hill threw a pair of touchdown passes to Aaron Neal for the JV squad, with Jacob Geesaman rushing for 100 yards and tacking on a two-point conversion.
For the freshmen, Collin Haines totaled more than 100 yards rushing, and Ethan Myers punched the ball in from the 1-yard line for the Patriots’ only score.
Following the score, Myers then connected with Caden Stant for the two-point conversion.
Haines took over as quarterback in the second half and completed one pass to Max Moser.
The JV Patriots end their season 2-5, and the freshman fell to 0-6-1.
