ATI posts stronger third quarter
Business Roundup
Allegheny Technologies Inc., parent company of Portland Forge, broke even on operations in the third quarter with sales of $1.07 billion. That’s an improvement over the second quarter when the company posted a net loss of $3.8 million.
“We continued to build the foundation for profitable growth in the third quarter,” said chairman, president and chief executive officer Rich Harshman in a prepared statement. “Our balance sheet remains solid with cash on hand of $264 million.”
To announce results
Motherson Sumi Systems Ltd., parent company of the former Stoneridge wiring plant in Portland, will announce its second quarter financial results at a meeting of its board of directors on Nov. 10.
The Portland plant now operates under the name MSSL Wiring Systems. Stoneridge sold its wiring division to the Indian firm Motherson Sumi Systems earlier this year.
Earnings up
Net income for Comcast jumped 50 percent in the third quarter, primarily because of a one-time tax settlement.
The cable TV and Internet provider is in the middle of a $45 billion takeover of Time Warner Cable, which is being reviewed by federal regulators.
Marks 110 years
Moser Motor Sales recently celebrated its 110th year in business and its 100th anniversary with Ford Motor Company. The guests in attendance were: Ford Corporate executives, Warren Manufacturing executives, family members of founder A.J. Moser, fourth generation owners, Jim and Linda Eicher, employees and spouses.
South Adams High School automotive teacher, Gary McMillan, was also in attendance and was praised for his instructional quality.
Employees were recognized for their years of service, some for as many as 63 years.
Production resumes
Production has resumed at a southeastern Indiana Honda assembly plant after an unknown substance was found there, The Associated Press reported.
A statement issued by Honda Manufacturing of Indiana in Greensburg says production was stopped Thursday while the substance was tested. It says testing determined the substance is non-toxic and poses no danger or safety concerns.
The Greensburg Daily News reports the powdery substance was found in an envelope alongside a note in a Honda office.
The 1.3 million-square-foot plant about 50 miles southeast of Indianapolis opened in October 2008. It assembles two Honda Civic models and one Acura ILX model.
It has about 2,000 workers.
