Red Gold announced this week its Run to Crush Hunger has raised $32,898.45 this year for area charities.
For the third consecutive year, the run in downtown Elwood raised funds for The Morrisett Center, Second Harvest Food Bank and Habitat for Humanity.
More than 700 runners from 81 different communities and five states took part in the event.
“We were so pleased at the turnout for the event and the amount of funds that were raised to support feeding hungry people in Indiana,” said Tim Kean, president and chief executive officer of Second Harvest Food Bank. “It generated over 120,000 meals to help people who are struggling to feed their families.”
The event included the 29th annual Red Gold Chili Cook-Off, a Colts Blue event and the first Indiana Craft Beer and Wine Garden.
The family-owned company plans to continue to hold the event the second Saturday of each October.
“Red Gold is extremely proud to host an event with such an important cause,” said Colt Reichart, fourth generation owner of Red Gold.
