FORT RECOVERY — A renovation project that spanned more than two years and cost more than $3 million is ready to be unveiled.
Fort Recovery School Board on Tuesday discussed an open house, scheduled for 2 p.m. Oct 12, for the public to view the renovated Fort Recovery High School.
The open house will allow residents to see upgrades made to the school during its $3.4 million renovation project that was approved by the voters in November 2011. Construction began in May 2012 and is nearly complete, with only finishing touches remaining.
The project included new electrical, plumbing and heating, ventilation and cooling (HVAC) systems, as well as the addition of a new parking lot and security and technology upgrades.
In conjunction with the school’s renovation, Fort Recovery Athletic Boosters built a new student activity center at the southwest corner of the school property.
“Visitors from Parkway came in last week and they were just blown away,” said FRHS principal Jeff Hobbs of the facility, which includes a weight room and half basketball court. “Kudos to the boosters and everybody that has done that.”
Student council members will be stationed throughout the building during the open house to help explain the renovations to visitors.
In other business, board members Jose Faller, Ginny Fortkamp, Dave Hull, Aaron Guggenbiller and Amy Bihn:
•Heard a presentation from Emilie Sheridan and Katie Homan about their trip to Japan. The FRHS students spent six weeks in a summer exchange program after earning scholarships from Family, Career and Community Leaders of America and Kikkoman.
Both students will receive a half credit in East Asian studies.
•Learned from principal Tracy Hein-Evers that the elementary school will hold an open house from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Oct. 27.
•Approved overnight field trips for Fort Recovery FFA to the National FFA Convention in Louisville, Ky., the marching band to Columbus, Ohio, and for the golf teams to sectional, regional and state tournaments.
•Hired Tony Overton (assistant high school boys basketball coach), Victoria Horstman (high school art club and yearbook advisor), Amy Kaiser (high school future teachers association and cheerleading advisor), Sean Kahlig (middle school boys basketball coach) and Robyn Armstrong (district RTI core team). Also approved Nickolas Kallas (volunteer swim coach), Rick Kremer (Tri Star Advisory Council representative) and substitute teachers Angie Will and Alicia Jutte.
