Jay Co. blanks Delta

Gabbie Mann and Catherine Dunn both scored multiple goals Tuesday as the Jay County girls soccer team shut out the visiting Delta Eagles 5-0.
The Patriots (5-5) were held scoreless through the first half by Delta, a sectional rival. But Mann, Dunn and their teammates took over in the second half for the lopsided victory.
Mann recorded her fifth hat trick of the season, upping her season total to 20 goals in just 10 games. Catherine Dunn scored the other two goals for the Patriots, tallying her second straight multi-goal game.
Jay County will face another sectional opponent at 7:15 p.m. Thursday as it travels to Yorktown. The Patriots shut out the Tigers 1-0 to win the sectional title in 2013.

Patriots shut out
The Jay County boys tennis team was no match for the Eagles on Tuesday.
Delta, which is the ninth-ranked team in the state, only lost one game in a 5-0 rout of the host Patriots.
JCHS junior Alex Clark lost to Jacob Brewer at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-0, as the only Patriot to take a game from the visiting Eagles.
Joe Wegener defeated Jay County’s Zach Pryor 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and Alex Robillard beat Alex Krieg at No. 2 singles, also by a score of 6-0, 6-0.

The Patriot No. 1 doubles team of Jay Houck and Adam Jutte lost to Nick Wilson and Jay Robillard 6-0, 6-0. The No. 2 doubles team of Sok Vormohr and Garrett Rodgers fell to Matt Hapner and Nick Bantz, 6-0, 6-0.

Indians top SA
BERNE — The Starfires had the chances on Tuesday, but they just couldn’t finish them.
The South Adams girls soccer team fell to the Mississinewa Indians, 4-0.
Mississinewa got on the board in the 10th minute, and added two more scores to take a 3-0 lead into the half.
The Indians tacked on one more in the final 40 minutes, and held off nine shots by the Starfires in the second half to preserve the shutout.
Alexis Dellinger had six shots for the Starfires (3-8), and Madison Morgan added five. Sharon Balsiger tallied four shots, with Tori Reiley and Virginia Lagos each adding one.
Jade Jauregui had seven saves for the Starfires.

East Jay 8th wins
Michael Schlecthy scored two touchdowns Tuesday, as the East Jay Middle School eighth grade football team shut out the visiting Bluffton Tigers, 27-0.
Schlecthy had a pair of 30-yard TD runs, racking up 120 rushing yards on the night. His twin brother Ryan added a 7-yard touchdown and Daniel Ostrowski found paydirt from 15 yards out.
East Jay’s seventh graders also shut out Bluffton, 28-9.
Jackson Lyons had two rushing touchdowns for the Chiefs. Logan Duran and MaCuly LeMaster each scored on passes from Gabe Link.

EJ spikers win
The East Jay eighth grade volleyball team picked up a win in three games over Winchester Driver on Tuesday, 25-22, 14-25, 15-2.
Sarah Walter had 14 points and six aces for the host Chiefs (8-3). Kailee Denney tallied nine points and three aces, and Maggie Pryor had two aces and a team-high seven digs.
Hanna Dillon recorded a team-high four kills, with Gwen Omstead, Olivia Kunkler and Walter each adding two. Dillon also had a pair of digs, and Denney notched five assists.

WJ top Warriors
DUNKIRK — Randi Ferguson had 10 points in the West Jay eighth grade volleyball team’s win over the visiting Wes-Del Warriors on Tuesday, 25-18, 25-17.
The seventh grade Eagles also won, 25-21, 25-23.
Gracie Miller recorded eight points, and Kendal Garringer had four, including two aces, for the WJMS eighth graders. Molly Ault and Rhegan Shimp both tallied three points.
Halle Hill led the West Jay seventh graders with eight points, and Allison Jobe chipped in with seven, including five aces.
