Three confined feeding operations accounted for more than two thirds of the construction costs for building permits issued by the Jay/Portland Building and Planning Office in March.
Travis K. Homan was issued a permit for two swine confined feeding buildings at a total construction cost of $1.6 million. They will be constructed at 8172 W. 550 North, Pennville.
Also issued last month were permits for chicken confined feeding buildings to Berne Hi-Way Hatchery, Inc., at 8623 N. U.S. 27, Bryant, for $1.4 million and Albert S. Schrock on county road 550 West, rural Pennville, for $650,000.
The Rock Church, 1605 N. Meridian St., Portland, was issued a permit for a $1 million remodeling and renovation of the former Marsh supermarket building.
Other permits were issued in March to Jay County Historical Society for an addition at Jay County Historical Museum, 903 E. Main St., at a cost of $170,000, Zebulun and Neesha Anderson for a pole building at 1271 W. 650 South for $25,000, George Homan for a $120,000 barn addition at 11701 W. 200 North, Joe Johnston for a $25,000 garage addition at 125 Rose Drive, Portland, Loy Family Investments, LLC, for a $500 sign at 212 W. Main St., Portland, West Moore for a new $125,000 home at 7239 W. 400 South, Keith Lehman for a carport and two porch roofs at 1120 S. Bridge St., Portland, at a cost of $2,500, Levi W. Wickey for a $20,000 buggy shed at 8899 N. 400 West, James Link for a $14,000 shop building at 7631 S. U.S. 27, Trent VanSkyock for a $45,000 shop and storage building at 7570 E. 500 South, Danny Hilbert for $7,200 deck addition with a roof at 3697 W. 200 South, Cody Shannon for a $23,000 home addition at 3579 E. 800 North and Juan Serna-Vargas for an $8,500 garage and storage building on country road 300 North, rural Portland.

Ivy Tech Community College won five awards in March at the National Council of Marketing and Public Relations conference in Portland, Oregon.
Ivy Tech Statewide won a bronze award for print ad and brochure series. Ivy Tech Northeast earned a silver award for feature writing.
Other awards included gold for brochure for Ivy Tech Bloomington and bronze for wild card for Ivy Tech Columbus.

Registration is open for the Jay County Chamber of Commerce Chamber Classic Golf Outing.
The event is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. May 1 at Portland Golf Club. Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m.
