Jay County golfers 13th at Yorktown

YORKTOWN — Jay County High School’s boys golf team opened its season Saturday, finishing 13th in the Yorktown Invitational at Players Club at Woodland Trails.
The host Tigers, who are ranked ninth in the state, won the tournament with a score of 303. No. 19 Indianapolis Cathedral was second with 315, and New Castle was eight strokes behind in third. The Patriots scored 382.
Sophomore Jay Houck led Jay County with a round of 83. Graham Haines turned in a score of 95.
Nick Hayden followed with a 102, and Kyler Hudson was close behind with a 107.
Collin Haines also competed, shooting a round of 116.

Jay falls to Indians
GAS CITY — The Patriot baseball team suffered its first loss of the season Saturday in a 9-2 loss to the Mississinewa Indians.
Jay County (2-1) fell behind 1-0 after the first inning, but tied the game with a run in the second. However, the Indians put up five runs in the fourth inning for a 6-1 advantage and added another in the fifth.
The Patriots got one run back in the sixth, but the Indians answered with two in the sixth to reach the final run total.
Josh Vaughn and Ethan Myers and each had a pair of hits for the Patriots, who were out-hit 17-9. Jay County also committed two errors.
Tanner Reynolds took the loss on the mound for the Patriots.

FR routs Musketeers
FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s baseball team proved to be too much for Fort Jennings on Saturday.
The host Indians scored almost at will and kept the Musketeers to just two hits, sweeping a doubleheader 10-0 and 16-0 respectively. With the victories, Fort Recovery moves to 8-0.

Fort Recovery scored one run in each of the first three innings of game one, and struck for seven runs in the fifth for the win. In the second game, the Indians again scored one run in the first. They added seven in the third, one in the fourth and seven more in the fifth to complete the rout.
Jacob Homan led the Indians with six hits, including three doubles, and drove in five runs. Mitchel Stammen tallied three hits, two RBIs and four stolen bases. Kyle Schroer added four RBIs on two hits.
Chase Bruns and Homan notched wins on the mound.

FR loses twice
FORT RECOVERY — The Tribe softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader Saturday to the Van Wert Cougars.
Fort Recovery was shut out 11-0 in the first game, and lost 16-2 in game two. The Indians fell to 0-4 on the season.
Audra Metzger, Kasey Vogel and Haley Knapke each had two hits for the Indians. Metzger and Knapke also drove in a run.
Chelsea Timmerman and Devin Post took the losses pitching for the Indians.

Revolution beat Wolfpack
The Portland Revolution basketball team picked up its second win Sunday, defeating the West Ohio Wolfpack 119-108 at Jay Community Center.
Jared Drake led the Revolution (2-2) with 38 points. Jay County High School graduate and current University of Saint Francis sophomore Kegan Comer chipped in with 28 points, and Dustin Overton added 11 to go with his six rebounds.
Mitch Waters tallied six points and five assists.
The Revolution will host the Dayton Airstrikers at 5 p.m. Saturday at Jay Community Center.
