JCHS loses on late rally

A day after hanging on to a lead against one of Ohio’s top teams, the Patriots weren’t able to repeat their performance.
The Eastbrook Panthers baseball team scored 10 runs in the final four innings to rally past the host Jay County Patriots, 11-10.
Jay County (3-2) had a 6-1 lead after the first two innings, but the Panthers began to chip away in the fourth.
Eastbrook struck for four runs in the top of the fourth to pull to within 6-5, but Jay County answered with two more in the bottom of the frame. The Panthers took a brief 9-8 advantage in the sixth before Jay County retook the lead with a pair on the bottom of the inning.
Eastbrook struck for two more in the top of the seventh, and held Jay County scoreless in to close out the win.
Jacob Geesaman, Chandler Jacks, Andy Kohler and Mitchell Kunkler all had two hits for Jay County. Cole Stigleman, Jacks and Kohler each had a pair of RBIs. Jake Carpenter took the loss in two innings of relief.

Tribe wins No. 10
FORT RECOVERY — The Indians’ winning streak has reached double digits.
Fort Recovery’s baseball team opened its Midwest Athletic Conference schedule with a 9-1 victory Tuesday over the St. John’s Blue Jays.
The Tribe (10-0, 1-0 MAC) grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first inning before St. John’s answered with a run in the top of the second.
The narrow deficit didn’t last long, however, as the Indians put up three runs in the third and four in the fifth while holding the visitors scoreless the rest of the way.
Kyle Schroer led the Indians, driving in three runs on two hits. Mitchell Stammen and Ben Will also had a pair of RBIs.


FR girls 3rd, boys 4th
ARCANUM, Ohio — Alexis Hobbs finished first in two individual events Tuesday, helping the Fort Recovery girls track team to a third-place finish.
Russia won the four-team meet with 83 points, and Bradford was second with 56 points. Fort Recovery scored 52 points for third, edging host Franklin-Monroe by one point.
Russia and Bradford also finished first and second in the boys competition with 123.5 and 51.5 points respectively. Franklin Monroe scored 39 points for third, and Fort Recovery was fourth with 37 points.
Hobbs won both hurdle races, finishing with a time of 18.09 seconds in the 110 hurdles. She earned a victory in the 300 hurdles in 53.84.
Cole Hull and Tyler Acheson picked up the only two wins for the Tribe boys. Hull finished first in the 200 dash in 24.6 seconds, and Acheson earned the top spot in the shot put with a distance of 41 feet, 8 inches.
