Tribe baseball makes history

ARCANUM, Ohio — No baseball team in Fort Recovery history has gotten off to a better start than the 2015 Indians.
The Tribe defeated the Arcanum Trojans 2-1 on Saturday, winning its 12th straight game to open a season. The 1950, ’51 and 2001 Indian squads all won the first 11 games of the season.
Derek Backs put the Indians (12-0) on the scoreboard in the first inning, driving in Cole Wendel on an RBI single.
In the sixth, Jacob Homan hit double and was replaced by pinch runner Ross Homan. Backs bunted Homan to third, and Kyle Schroer drove in Homan for the eventual game-winning run.
The Trojans scored a run in the bottom of the seventh, but were unable to send the game into extras.
Cole Wendel got the win for the Indians, scattering two hits, walking four and striking out one in five-plus innings.

Lancers sweep FR
VAN WERT, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s softball team dropped a pair of games to the Lincolnview Lancers on Saturday.
The Indians (0-8) had eight or more hits in both games, but couldn’t plate more than two runs in a 10-2 loss in game one and a 12-2, five-inning defeat in game two.
Fort Recovery had a brief 2-1 lead after two innings in game one, but Lincolnview struck for four runs in the third and fifth innings to pull away.
In game two, the Indians scored a pair of runs in the third to trail 4-2, but the Lancers put up seven in the bottom of the frame for the lopsided win.
Devin Post led the Indians with three hits and a pair of RBIs on the day. Audra Metzger tallied four hits, with Chelsea Timmerman and Logan Ranly each adding two.
Mikayla Post and Lauren Gehle both added RBIs, and Emily Hart totaled three stolen bases.
Fort Recovery has now lost 27 straight games.?Its last win was a 2-1 victory May 17, 2013, in the season finale.

Three records fall
MINSTER, Ohio — The South Adams girls track team set three school records Saturday at the Minster Memorial Invitational.
South Adams finished sixth as a team with 51 points. The Starfire boys also scored 51 points to finish fourth.
Minster claimed both the girls and boys team titles with 170 and 121.5 points respectively.
SAHS freshman Addie Wanner set a new school record in the 100-meter hurdles. She finished as the runner-up with a time of 15.98 seconds.
Wanner’s classmate Olivia Von Gunten finished third in the 800 run in 2 minutes, 26.28 seconds, breaking Haleigh Lehman’s record from 2004.
Von Gunten and Wanner were also part of the record-breaking 4x400 relay, joining Caroline Kloepper and Hannah Imel to finish third in 4:18.10.
Bailey McIntire picked up the only victories for the South Adams boys. The sophomore won the 1,600 and 3,200 runs in 4:34.63 and 10:04.71 respectively.
