Make prom a celebration
Editorial
It’s prom week.
Fort Recovery High School students will get dressed up Friday for their event at Fort Site Fieldhouse, and their counterparts at Jay County will follow Saturday.
For seniors, it’s one of the final school events to enjoy before graduation in June.
It’s a time to celebrate.
And here, the communities celebrate right along with the students.
Family and friends gather to watch as students in gowns and tuxedos enter the gym. They cheer as the king and queen are crowned. They swarm the floor afterward to give hugs and take pictures.
It’s a happy event that leaves all in attendance with a positive vibe. And we’d like to extend that feeling throughout the community.
Staff members from The Commercial Review will be at the JCHS prom Saturday. Yes, we’ll take pictures of the crowning of the king and queen. But we’ll also be collecting donations for Helping Hand Food Bank.
This will be the fourth year for our “Promen-aid” event. Through the first three, your generosity has been overwhelming. You’ve donated nearly 2,000 food items and more than $1,000 thus far, and we hope to continue that success this year.
As always, the food bank is in need of items such as peanut butter, boxed cereal and canned fruits and vegetables. We’ll also accept monetary donations.
So when you walk out the door for prom Saturday, remember those in our community who are in need. Grab a box, a jar or a can and bring it along.
A small donation can make a big difference. And as a group we can make prom a great celebration, in more ways than one. — R.C.
