Long, Myers lead Jay to ACAC victory

Jay Co. roundup

WOODBURN — Levi Long sparked the Patriot offense.
Jake Myers shut down the Warriors.
Long hit a three-run home run in the first inning Thursday and Myers kept the Woodlan Warriors to just four hits as the Jay County High School baseball team won, 11-1.
It was the first Allen County Athletic Conference victory for the Patriots, who move to 6-5 on the season and 1-0 in the ACAC.
Long’s blast, his first of the season, gave the Patriots a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning before the host Warriors answered with a run in the bottom of the frame. Jay County tacked on three more runs in the third and five in the fourth. Long drove in four runs, scored twice and walked once.
Levi Stant also had two hits, with Andy Kohler smacking a two-run double in the three-run third. Jacob Geesaman, Cole Stigleman, Tanner Reynolds and Chandler Jacks each had a hit and an RBI.
Myers won his fourth game of the season, giving up one earned run on four hits while walking four and striking out four in five innings.

Boles, Hart lead JC
WOODBURN — Gabby Hart’s four RBIs and a home run by Larissa Boles powered the Jay County softball team to a 13-8 victory Thursday against the Woodlan Warriors.
Jay County (7-5, 1-0 ACAC) trounced on the Warriors early, scoring three runs in the first inning and two in the second. But the Warriors scored all eight runs in the first two innings, thanks to a seven-run effort in the second.

The Patriots slowly chipped away, scoring two runs in the third and one in the fourth to tie the game at eight apiece. Jay County took an 8-9 lead with a run in the fifth, and tacked on two insurance runs in each of the final two innings.
Hart smacked four hits, two of which were doubles, as the Patriots tallied 17 hits on the evening. Catherine Dunn had a double and two singles, and scored three runs. Kady Finnerty, Randi Auker and Boles each had two hits.
Boles struck out 12 and walked to get the win.
