Fun night to be held at community center
Taking note
Jay Community Center will have a Family Fun Night Friday. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., family games will be begin at 6 p.m. and free pizza and pop will be served at 6:30 p.m.
Ventriloquist David Crone and his cast of characters will provide entertainment at 7 p.m.
The evening is free. JCC is located at 115 E. Water St. in Portland.
Library events
Harley Sheets will share a historical postcard presentation at 3 p.m. Saturday at Jay County Public Library.
Sheets is past president of the Indianapolis Postcard Club and co-founder of the Indiana High School Basketball Historical Society. Bring old postcards for a free appraisal.
A Do It Yourself Spa for Mother’s Day will begin at 10 a.m. on May 9. Learn how to make homemade sugar scrubs and lip balm.
Take the summer challenge at Jay County Public Library and help contribute to the local food bank.
Children, teens and adults can stay active, try new experiences and reach a personal goal of 100 points to be added to a community goal of 20,000 points. If the goal is met, MainSource bank will make a donation to the Helping Hand Food Pantry.
Points can be earned by reading, attending library programs, performing activities and completing projects from a list available at JCPL.
Registration begins May 18, with participants receiving an activity card which may be turned in after 25 points is earned. Tickets will be given for each completed card to be entered in a grand prize drawing. Kids will receive a book and prize package after earning 50 points.
The challenge concludes July 14 and the grand finale will be July 16 with a visit to the Super Hero Museum at the library.
