Grimm's five RBIs lead South Adams

FORT WAYNE — Some teams hope to score 11 runs in one game.
The Starfires did it in one inning.
South Adams High School junior Keirstyn Grimm recorded four of her game-high five RBIs in the top of the first inning, powering the Starfire softball team to a 16-0 rout of the Wayne Generals in five innings on Monday.
Grimm followed RBI singles by Lauren Smith and Maddie Morgan with a two-run triple to make it 4-0 in favor of South Adams (8-5). Cindy In’t Groen, Morgan Alberson, Alaina Johnston and Loren Sparks all had RBI singles. After yet another RBI single by Morgan, Grimm drove in another pair with a double to cap the scoring in the opening frame.
Johnston, who also smacked a triple in the game, notched hits in all five of her at bats, driving in three runs in the process.
Casi Evans was also a perfect 4-for-4. Morgan and Sparks both had three hits, and In’t Groen tallied two.
Alberson got her second career win, tossing four innings of one-hit ball. She walked one and struck out six.

JC golfers win
FARMLAND — Jay County’s golf team had four players shoot in the 40s on Monday to earn victories against Winchester and Monroe Central at Hickory Hills Golf Club.
Jay Houck shot a 40 to earn match medalist honors and lead the Patriots (3-4) to a team score of 174. The Winchester Golden Falcons were second with 205, and the host Monroe Central Golden Bears finished third with 262.
Houck birdied the par-3 10th before making par on three consecutive holes. He finished with four pars total.
Graham Haines and Kyler Hudson turned in matching scores of 44. Haines had three pars in his round, playing event on the par-4 12th and 14th holes as well as the par-3 15th.
Hudson’s only par of the round came on the par-3 17th.
Nick Hayden followed with a 46 to round out the Patriots’ team score. Collin Haines also competed, turning in a score of 52.

SA falls to Minster
MINSTER, Ohio — Despite out-hitting the Wildcats, the South Adams baseball team couldn’t come up with the timely base knock in an 8-4 road loss Monday against Minster.
South Adams (7-5) grabbed a 2-0 lead on RBI singles by Justin Nussbaum in the first inning and Kenny Amstutz in the second.
Minster scored single runs in the second, third and fourth innings for a 3-2 lead, but the Starfires struck for a pair in the top of the fifth on an RBI single by Kyle Cox, who later scored before Corbin Blomeke was caught in a rundown for the final out.
Trailing 4-3, Minster took the lead with three in the bottom of the fifth, and added two more insurance runs in the sixth.
Chandler Ingle led South Adams with two hits and two runs. He also took the loss, allowing all eight runs — five earned — while walking three and striking out three.

FR girls, boys 2nd
FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery Middle School’s boys and girls track teams both finished in second place Monday in a three-team meet with Russia and New Knoxville.
Russia won both the boys and girls meets, scoring 76.5 points to take the girls competition. It won the boys side with 76 points. The FRMS boys scored 69 points, while the girls totaled 37.
Robby LeFevre and Jared Timmerman each won two events for the Tribe boys. LeFevre was first in both the 110-meter hurdles and 100 dash, with Timmerman winning the 200 dash and long jump. Drew Muhlenkamp (1,600 run), Nolan Thobe (400 dash) and Owen Sheridan (discus) also won for the Indians.
LeFevre, Thobe and Timmerman teamed with Brayden Schoen to win the 4x100 relay.
Cassidy Martin was the lone individual winner for the FRMS girls, placing first in both the 200 and 400 dash races. She joined Hannah Heitkamp, Elise Gehle and Rachel Acheson to win the 4x400 relay.
