Cope helps IU East break record

Collegiate Check-up

Dylan Cope and his teammates didn’t just win the 4x800-meter relay. They did so in record-breaking fashion.
The 2013 Jay County High School graduate was part of a new school record for the Indiana University East men’s track team, which finished third Saturday at the Kentucky Indiana Athletic Conference Championships hosted by University of Rio Grande in Rio Grande, Ohio.
Cope and teammates Kyle Hall, Sage Henderson and Adam Klipstine dominated the KIAC field in the 4x800 race. They won by more than 25 seconds over Point Park in 8 minutes, 9.89 seconds, to set their new school record.
In the 1,500 run, Cope came up just short of giving the Red Wolves another win as he finished as the runner-up in 4:23.32. He was also second along with teammates Clint Swanson, Hall and Henderson in the 4x400 relay in 3:40.2.
He added eighth-place efforts in both the 800 run and javelin.

Collin Affolder
South Adams – 2014
Tallied four hits and scored the winning run during the first game of a doubleheader for the Bethel College baseball team in a sweep of Taylor University on Monday.
Affolder drew a walk in the top of the eighth inning, and later came around to score on a pinch-hit walk off single by Ethan Bowland as the Pilots (15-25, 11-17 Crossroads League) beat the Trojans 2-1 in extra innings.
The South Adams product added a pair of hits and scored a run in the nightcap, a 7-1 victory. He also had a single and a run April 23 in a 4-2 victory against University of Saint Francis.

Tim Lehman
South Adams – 2013
Competed in the Crossroads League championships for the Goshen College men’s team.
Lehman was one of just four Maple Leafs to finish in the top 10 of an individual event, placing eighth in the 400-meter dash. His time of 50.86 seconds was four tenths of a second behind seventh-place runner Kyle Shelton of Taylor.

Drew Houck
Jay County – 2011
Finished off his collegiate career by helping the Indiana University East men’s golf team to a third-place finish in the Kentucky Indiana Athletic Conference Tournament.
Houck shot 88 and 89 in the first two rounds of the 54-hole tournament at Liberty Country Club. He was unable to compete in the final round because of an illness.
