Berne Ready Mix tops permit list
A business new to Portland topped the list of construction costs for building permits issued in July by the Jay/Portland Building and Planning Office.
Berne Ready Mix, which announced in December its plans to move into the former Jay Products building in Portland, was issued a permit for prefabricated silos and aggregate bins and conveyors at the facility at 86 E. 100 North. Total construction costs are estimated at $600,000.
The only other project to top the $100,000 mark in July was at FCC, Indiana. The company at 555 Industrial Park Drive in Portland was issued a permit for a $300,000 die-maintenance addition.
Other permits were issued in July to Lester Dirksen for a $43,000 tool building at 5471 S. 300 East; Advanced Auto Parts, 1512 N. Meridian St., Portland, for a business sign at $16,000; Choice One Engineering, 607 N. Meridian Street, Portland, for a $4,000 business sign; James Blount, 243 N. Charles St., Portland, for an open porch at $2,500; Jonas D. Graber, 2304 W. 550 North, for a summer kitchen addition at $4,000; Jimmy Fidler, 403 N. Morton St., Portland, for a roof over a deck for $480; Gary Homer, 425 N. Union Ct., Pennville, for a $7,000 deck with a roof; Lon and Sheri Racster, 608 E. Race St., Portland, for a deck addition at $10,000; Kent Homan, 371 S. 850 West for a home addition at $30,000; Randy and Karla Hopkins, 853 S. 100 East for a four-season room at $47,500; Rick Shannon, 301 W. Race St., Portland, for a pergola and fence at $2,400; Rhonda Harris, 538 Floral Ave. Portland, for a porch and ramp at $4,500; Terry Prescott for a $30,000 pole barn at 10721 W.
