Deer accident
A Portland driver struck a deer with his vehicle in Noble Township Monday night.
Marlin L. Valentine, 73, 2750 N. Indiana 1, was driving west on Indiana 26 east of county road 400 East. A deer jumped into the roadway from the south and Valentine could not avoid hitting it with his 2010 Mercury Grand Marquis.
Damage in the 9:30 p.m. accident was estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
School bus hit
A Portland man’s vehicle hit a school bus stopped at a railroad track Monday morning.
Kim L. Loy, 52, 2779 S. Blaine Pike, Portland, stopped a bus on S. Bridge Street for a railroad crossing.
Lonnie D. Mertz, 26, 651 E. North St., Portland, was northbound behind Loy and struck the bus with the 2007 Ford Ranger he was driving.
The 2009 bus is registered to Jay School Corporation, 1976 Tyson Road, Portland.
The Ranger is registered to the Department of Administration, 402 W. Washington St., Indianapolis.
Damage in the 7:52 a.m. accident was estimated less than $1,000.
Vandalism
A Portland woman reported vandalism to her residence Monday afternoon. Teresa Nikole Antontio, 209 E. Elder St., reported at 12:58 p.m. that someone had written vulgar phrases in red permanent marker on the seal around a window.
Mower accident
A Fort Recovery man on a lawnmower was injured in an accident at 12:16 p.m. Aug. 1.
Charles Hein, 62, 2532 Indiana-Ohio State Line Road, was mowing grass in that area when he drove into the path of a 1990 Ford F150 driven by Michael Rammel, 38, 13399 Indiana-Ohio State Line Road, Union City.
Hein was ejected from the mower. Both vehicles came to a stop in the ditch on the west side of the road.
He refused treatment at the scene but later went to Mercer County Community Hospital.
Rear-ended
Three Portland residents were injured July 30 in a three-vehicle accident at the intersection of Fleetfoot Road and Ohio 29.
Jeffrey Brown, 49, Columbus, was driving a 2001 semi east on Ohio 29. His vehicle collided with the rear of a 2014 Chevrolet Captiva driven by Christina Reynard, 44, Portland.
Her car then hit the back of a 2010 Chevrolet HHR driven by Michael Denney, 18, Portland.
Denney and his passenger, Patricia Reynard, 41, were taken by EMS to Mercer County Community Hospital.
