Arts place accepting proposals

Taking Note

Arts Place in Portland is currently accepting proposals for artists to exhibit their work.
There is one large gallery and two small ones at its 131 E. Walnut St. location. Proposals will be accepted from artists in Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, and Kentucky to display two and three-dimensional work for single or group exhibits.
Proposals must include ten images of work completed in the last two years, with the title, medium, dimensions and date completed. Also include a description of the proposed exhibition, a current resume and an artist statement. Proposals are due by Sept. 7 and electronic submissions are preferred.

Summer festival
A Summer’s End Street Festival will be held from 5 to 11 p.m. Saturday in downtown Geneva.
Performing will be B-45, a group of high school students from Fort Wayne who sing songs from the Beatles era.
The Bulldogs will then perform from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m.
There will also be a kid’s carnival and food will be available.  

Police academy
The Portland Police Department will hold its 10th Annual Citizens Police Academy in September for anyone 18 and older.
The academy will meet from 6:30 to 9 p.m. beginning Sept. 17 and continue for eight weeks.
Topics will include the Drug Task Force, K-9, investigations, fingerprint lifting, defensive tactics, firearms, the chaplain program and a tour of the Jay County Sheriff’s Office and jail.

Final concert
The final concert of the summer will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at Dunkirk Webster-Depot Park with Spittin’ Image performing. Twin brothers Blain and Brian Swabb of Greenville, Ohio, will share an evening of music and comedy.
