Jay Co. blanks Burris

MUNCIE — Six players scored goals for the Patriots.
Goalkeeper Lilly Rogers didn’t even touch the ball.
Kayla Ferguson and Mariah Bailey both had two goals Saturday, helping the Jay County High School girls soccer team to a 8-0 thrashing of Muncie Burris.
The Patriots improve to 2-1 on the year after a season-opening loss to Richmond on Tuesday.
It was the first career goals for Ferguson, a junior, and Bailey tallied her first marks of her senior season.
Junior Stormi Canterbury and sophomore Alex Bader also had their first goals of the season. Sophie Bader found the back of the net for her third goal in as many games.
Lucy Laux also scored, pushing her team-high goal total to five. She added two assists.
Alex Bader, Bailey and Canterbury also had assists, as the Patriot offense exploded for 37 shots on goal. The Owls didn’t record a single shot.
The JCHS junior varsity team also shut out the Owls, 7-0.
Sisters Alexus Liette and Breea Liette, Hannah Phillips, Teresa Romero, Kendra Muhlenkamp, Ferguson and Canterbury all tallied goals for the Patriots.

Houck 4th, JC 8th
WATERLOO — Jay Houck was the lone Patriot to place in the top four Saturday.
The Jay County junior finished fourth at No. 2 singles as the JCHS boys tennis team placed eighth at the DeKalb Invitational. The host Barons tallied 31 points for the team championship, with Bellmont (23) and West Noble (20) in second and third respectively.
Houck defeated Norwell’s Brock Werling in the opening round 6-4, 6-4 before falling 6-1, 6-3 to Nic Graber of DeKalb in the semifinal.
He then lost to Kolten Peterson of West Noble in the third-place match.

Sophomore Garrett Rodgers dropped his first No. 3 singles match 6-0, 6-4 to West Noble’s Josh Gaff, then won the next two to finish fifth. He defeated Norwell’s Nate Nunemaker 6-4, 6-4 before beating Noah Tobias of Norwell 8-7 (7-5).
At No. 1 singles, Alex Clark was 0-2, as were both JCHS doubles teams. The Patriots’ No. 1 doubles team is Sok Vormohr and Payton Heniser, and the No. 2 doubles tandem is Evan VanCise and Luke Weaver.

Tribe boys second
SYDNEY, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s boys golf team finished second Friday at Shelby Oaks Golf Course.
The host Lehman Catholic Cavaliers shot a 165 to win the three-team match. Fort Recovery scored 185, and Botkins was third with 196.
Senior Jackson Hobbs had a season-best 38 to win match medalist honors, edging Ryan Schmidt of Lehman Catholic.
Hobbs started his round even through three holes before bogeying the par-4 fourth. He then went par, birdie, par to sit at even par, but bogeyed the final two holes to finish 2-over.
Chase Bruns finished with a 42 for the Indians’ No. 2 score. Micaiah Cox and Colt Grieshop completed the Tribe’s team total by shooting 52 and 53 respectively.
Nick Litmer and Austin Faller also competed, and they tied with scores of 54.

Indians win
WAYNESFIELD, Ohio — The Indians shot a season-best score Friday. It pushed the Tribe above .500 for the first time this season.
The Fort Recovery girls golf team defeated the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers 205-222 on Friday at Prairie View Golf Club.
Tori Vaughn and Trisha Thien both had a 48 to lead the Indians. It was a career-best for Vaughn, who beat her previous low score by three strokes. Cori Stone also had a career-best 51. Emily Bruns rounded out the Tribe’s team score with a 58.
