BERNE — The Starfires had the clear advantage in the singles matches.
The Knights owned doubles.
South Adams High School’s boys tennis team swept the three singles matches in a 3-2 victory Wednesday against the Norwell Knights.
At No. 1 singles, David Villarroeal defeated Bryant Barger 6-4, 6-0, and David Muselman beat Brock Werling at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-1.
The Starfires’ No. 3 singles player Dexter Miller beat Noah Tobias 6-3, 6-1 to give South Adams (4-1) a clean sweep of the singles contests.
Norwell’s Cody Shively and Trevor Wilson battled Marcus Teeter and Kam DeLong to come out on the winning end of a 6-4, 7-5 score at No. 1 doubles.
Zach Teeple and Jamison Kistler fell to Andrew Mater and Duke Wang at No. 2 doubles, 6-1, 6-0.
The Starfires’ junior varsity team lost 5-0.


Six teams advance
WINAMAC — Jay County will be represented at the state golf meet.
The Jay County Special Olympics golf team competed in the sectional tournament Saturday at Moss Creek Golf Course.
Six of the 12 Jay County unified teams advanced to the state meet, which will be Sept. 26 at Hickory Sticks Golf Club in Greenwood.
Reaching the state competition were Neal and Ravi Patel, Sam Gleesner and Tom Dunn, Kameron Woodbury and Zach Fullenkamp, Darrin Martin and Jeremy Kunkler, Mark Knipp and Troy Atkinson, and Conner Hoyt and Dave Fullenkamp.
Also competing but missing the state meet were Kurtis Atkinson and Logan Campbell, Kristy Silverman and Jalisa Scott, Ron Smith and Bill Schaffer, Nate and Bo Clay, Dillon Lewis and Willie Skiver, and Amanda Bailey and Ashley Bunch.
