Fort Recovery opens season 2-1

CELINA, Ohio — Fort Recovery High School’s volleyball team opened its season Saturday and finished 2-1 at the Mercer County Health Invitational.
The Indians defeated the host Celina Bulldogs 25-19, 25-19, then battled with the Arlington Red Devils in a three-set loss, 30-28, 21-25, 25-23. The Tribe then closed out the tournament with a 25-11, 25-13 victory over the Greenville Green Wave.
Senior Kendra Siefring paced the Indian offense with 30 kills for the tournament. She also had two aces. On the defensive side of the court, she racked up 13 digs and a dozen blocks.
Carley Stone had 14 kills to go with her six digs, and Cassidy Martin tallied nine kills and six blocks.
Kirsten Jutte totaled 40 assists, 11 digs and six kills. Faith Kahlig notched 15 assists and 10 digs, and Madison Grover recorded 16 digs.
The Indians travel to Portland at 6 p.m. Tuesday to meet the Jay County Patriots.

SA tennis cruises

FORT WAYNE — The Redskins and Archers were no match for the Starfires.
The South Adams boys tennis team cruised to 5-0 victories against North Side and South Side on Saturday at the North Side Invitational.
South Adams moves to 7-1 on the season.
Against the Redskins, David Villarroel and David Muselman beat Gregjean Baptiste and Benito Rodriguez at No. 1 and No. 2 singles respectively. Both matches were 6-0, 6-0.
Kam DeLong defeated Jordan Smasal 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles. The game Smasal won was the only one the Redskins would tally against the Starfires.
Dexter Miller and Marcus Teeter knocked off Drake Roop and Chase McCord at No. 1 doubles, while Aiden Bahre and Zach Teeple beat Chris Walker and Jesus Schaefer at No. 2 doubles. Both matches were 6-0, 6-0 scores.
South Adams didn’t lose a game in all three singles matches against South Side. Muselman moved to No. 1 singles to beat Grant Staton. Miller defeated Lee Barreva at No. 2 singles and DeLong disposed of Joe Sanchez at No. 3 singles.
Villarroel teamed with Teeter at No. 1 doubles, beating Kyle Rattie and Conner Meeks 6-1, 6-0. Jamison Kistler joined Teeple at No. 2 singles to defeat Coleone Davis and Santiago Aldave 7-6, 6-1.
