Jay Co. falls to 1-4 after Muncie Central Invitational
MUNCIE — The Patriots were simply overmatched.
Jay County High School’s boys tennis team lost all three matches Saturday at the Muncie Central Invitational.
It lost to the Alexandria Tigers, Mt. Vernon Marauders and Muncie Central Bearcats all by scores of 5-0.
The Patriots fell to 1-4 on the season.
Against Alexandria, JCHS senior Alex Clark fell to Josh Deutsch 6-1, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, and at No. 2 singles Jay Houck lost to Matthew Hensley 6-3, 6-2.
Alexandria’s Blake Morehead defeated Garrett Rodgers at No. 3 singles 6-0. 6-1.
The Patriots’ No. 1 doubles team of Sok Vormohr and Payton Heniser lost 6-1, 6-0 to Matt Etherington and Dane Hueston.
At No. 2 doubles, Luke Weaver and Evan Van Cise fell to Kiel Gregg and Noah Dockrey in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.
Clark then lost to Mt. Vernon’s Brandon Ware by the same score, with Houck falling 6-2, 6-1 to Ryan Beck. The Marauders’ Matt Hayes defeated Rodgers 6-2, 7-5.
Wilken Baldwin and Gavin Stamper beat Vormohr and Heniser 6-2, 6-1, with Weaver and Van Cise falling to Jacob Swift and Nathan Grandstaff 6-1, 6-2.
Clark and Houck weren’t able to win a game against Muncie Central’s Khamasi Muhiga and Bobby Cunningham, falling 6-0, 6-0. Rodgers lost the first set to Nick Schmaltz 6-0, and battled to a 6-3 defeat in the second set.
Vormohr and Heniser lost to Kaes Petroviak and Boyd McCoy 6-1, 6-3.
Weaver had a new partner in Kyler Hudson against the Bearcats, but the change didn’t pay off. They lost to Clark Tinder and Erich Ong, 6-0, 6-0.
