Starfire pair shine in win

BERNE — Two players reached double-digit scoring totals Monday for the South Adams High School freshman boys basketball team in a 39-29 victory against Union City.
Grant Besser led the Starfires (1-0) with 18 points and six rebounds. He also had two blocks and a pair of steals.
Joe Stuber scored 10 points to join Besser in double figures. He also had six rebounds, four steals and one block.
Spenser Clark added three points to go with his five rebounds. Josh Price and Mason Sell both tallied two points, four rebounds and an assist.
Victor Vasquez and Dario Banuelos had two points apiece.

Chief girls win
East Jay Middle School’s seventh grade girls basketball team moved to 3-1 Monday with a 42-23 win against Winchester Driver.
The EJMS eighth graders lost 39-14.
Natalie Miles exploded for 18 points in leading the Chiefs to victory. Grace Saxman added eight points, and Pacie Denney chipped in with six. Alana Kunkler and Zoey Elzey both tallied four points, and Aubrie Schwieterman had two.
Shadie Canterbury, Asilyn Davis and Taylor May scored three points apiece for the EJMS eighth graders (1-3).
Mackyzie Fairchild and Macey Weitzel netted two points each, and Mikele Suman scored one.

Eagles top Warriors
WOODBURN — Two players combined to score more than their opponent Monday as the West Jay seventh grade boys basketball team beat the Woodlan Warriors, 30-13.
The seventh grade Eagles lost 44-25.
Lane Chapman and Wesley Bennett each scored eight points to lead the WJMS eighth graders. Logan Brown followed with six points, and Frankie Crump tallied four points.
Riley Foster and Hunter Miller chipped in with two points apiece.
Trevan Vore reached double figures, scoring 10 points to pace the eighth grade Eagles in the losing effort. Dylan Bowler scored five points, and Brinnin Wasson added four. Peyton Nichols and Storm McClaughlin each netted three points.

Driver sweeps EJ
WINCHESTER — East Jay’s seventh and eighth grade boys basketball teams both lost to Winchester Driver on Monday.
The eighth graders fell 49-35, while the seventh grade squad dropped its game 43-12.
Noah Arbuckle and Sheldon Upp led the eighth graders with 10 and eight points respectively. Alex McFarland contributed six points, with Gabe Link and Cameron Henry adding four points apiece. Reid Claycomb chipped in with three points.
Griffin Mann, Ryan VanCise, Landon Grimes, Bailey Cox and Brian Zhang had two points each for the EJMS seventh graders. Clark Muhlenkamp and Nicholas Fields both tallied one point.

Stars edge Tigers
BLUFFTON — The South Adams eighth grade boys basketball team moved above .500 on the season Monday with a 34-31 victory against Bluffton.
Colin Schaffer scored 16 points, including 11 in the second half, to lead the Starfires (2-1, 1-1 Allen County Athletic Conference). He hit a 3-pointer in each of the first and fourth quarters.
Nic Stuber was 4-of-6 from the free-throw line on his way to nine points. Braden Baumer and Trey Lehman followed with five and four points respectively.
Seventh grade results were not available.
