MainSource posts good quarter

MainSource Financial Group reported the company earned $9.1 million in its third quarter, which ended Sept. 30.
In that quarter, MainSource benefited from acquiring the financial company MBT Bancorp last year and expanding its loan portfolio. The bank obtained five branches of Old National Bank, a part of MBT Bancorp.
Earning assets of the bank increased about 15 percent from last year, and 13 percent in net interest during the same period.
Non-interest expenses increased about 11 percent from last year’s third quarter. The company also noted increases in employee expenses, occupancy and equipment expense because of the acquisition.

New furnace
Glass-making company Ardagh Group, parent company of glass factories in Dunkirk and Winchester, opened its new £15 million flint furnace at its bottle facility in Irvine, Ayrshire, Scotland.
Ardagh makes 310 million spirit bottles a yea at the plantr.
The Luxembourg-based company, which started Portland Glass, obtained a £499,575 grant from the Scottish Enterprise Aid for Environmental Protection Scheme to make part of the investment.
This investment was made to “secure the future of the skilled 225 strong workforce ” at the Irvine plant, said a press release.
In a prior statement, Ardagh Group noted the furnace and the equipment investments were bought to reduce its annual C02 emissions by 2,400 tons a year.

Broin comments
Biofuel company CEO Jeff Broin  has commented on the Environmental Protection Agency’s Renewable Volume Obligation rule.
Broin, head of POET,  parent of POET Biorefining-Portland, said in a prepared statement, “The EPA volumes announced today are a move in the right direction, and they correctly call the oil industry’s bluff about our ability to surpass 10 percent ethanol se in the U.S.”
The CEO continued saying, “I look forward to breaking the so-called ‘blend wall’ next year and proving this country’s ability to replace more imported oil with biofuels produced within our borders.”

Annual meeting
Jay County Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual membership meeting from noon to 1 p.m. on Jan. 28 at Jay Community Center, 115 E. Water St., Portland.
The meeting is free for chamber members. This event will include networking, refreshments, highlights of past accomplishments, business anniversaries, installation of officers and announcements of Jay County Community Awards for 2015.

Nominations time
Submitting nominations for the Jay County Community Awards ends Monday, Dec. 14.
Award categories include Business of the Year, citizen of the Year, Dunkirk Community Award, Industry of the Year, Innovator of the Year, Lifetime Achievement, Not-for-Profit Organization of the Year and Young Professional of the Year.
Finalists will be announced at Jay County Chamber of Commerce membership meeting.

The networking breakfast entitled, “U.S. Small Business Administration” will be held at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday at West Jay Community Center, 125 Hoover St., Dunkirk.

Red Gold gives
Red Gold announced its annual Run to Crush Hunger race raised $42,847.89 to benefit the hungry.
Run to Crush Hunger took place Oct. 10 and attracted a crowd of 773 participants from 78 cities and eight states. The race included a 10k, 5k and one-mile family walk.
The fourth-annual event brings together local Indiana communities to promote healthy lifestyles while fighting hunger in the region. This year, the money raised for the event will all benefit the Second Harvest Food Bank, Morrisett Center Food Pantry and Habitat for Humanity of Madison County.
Run to Crush Hunger has raised more than $109,000 since its inception to feed Hoosier communities. Next year’s event will take place Oct. 8.

Shipments up
The RV industry continues to move larger numbers of trailers, campers and motorhomes this year than last year, according to a report in The Elkhart Truth..
The Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) reports 33,843 RV units were shipped to retailers in October, a 4.6 percent increase over October 2014. Year-to-date shipments of towable RVs are up 4.9 percent over this time last year, and motorhome shipments are up 5.8 percent.
Truck campers saw the greatest proportional gain over last year, the RVIA says, with 46.8 percent more shipments in October this year than last year. Overall, shipments of towable RVs and motorhomes are up 5 percent so far this year compared to the same time last year.
Almost every month this year has seen higher shipments than the same month last year, according to RVIA reports. The RV industry saw more September shipments this year than in the last nine years.Manufacturers are on track to ship more RV units this year than in 2014.
