Dunkirk man arrested after standoff
Capsule Reports
A Dunkirk man was arrested after barricading himself in his home Tuesday night.
Michael D. Patterson, 210 W. North St., eventually surrendered without incident. The Jay County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Response Team was at the scene along with Dunkirk police.
Patterson was arrested on three Class A misdemeanor charges: battery, invasion of privacy and resisting an officer.
He was booked into Jay County Jail at 9:39 p.m. and remains there with no bond.
Patterson’s previous charges include disorderly conduct, battery, resisting arrest and criminal recklessness resulting in bodily injury.
Dog injured
Jody R. Webster, 728 W. Race St., reported to police that her dog had a toy arrow or dart stuck in its eye when it came home between 1 and 2 a.m. Tuesday. Webster contacted police at 9:11 a.m. that morning.
Lines broken
Jerry L. Bell Jr., 615 N. Alexander St., told Portland police at 9:24 a.m. Tuesday that a unit at Piedmont Apartments, 778 W. Seventh St., Portland had been vandalized. Police found that water lines had been broken, causing thousands of dollars in damage.
Rear-ended
Two Portland teenagers were involved in an accident Tuesday afternoon at the intersection of Indiana 67 and county road 75 South.
Destiny D. Hare, 18, 704 S. Shank St., Portland, was driving her 1997 Chevrolet south on Indiana 67 and was slowing down to turn east onto county road 75 South.
Kendra R. Bickel, 17, 1428 W. 350 South, was driving south behind Hare and told a Jay County Sheriff’s Office deputy she did not see the vehicle in front of her. The 1998 Honda she was driving hit the back of Hare’s car.
The Honda is registered to Randy D. Bickel, same address.
Damage in the 3:15 p.m. accident was estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Basins installed
Two manholes and 10 catch basins have been installed on North and Race streets between Pleasant and Middle streets in Portland. Mayor Randy Geesaman said the contractor found tree roots within the lines. Culy Contracting will clean the roots out with a high-powered water jet.
Hit tree
A Bryant driver went off the road Tuesday morning in Wayne Township.
Joshua R. Middleton, 18, was driving a 2007 Ford north on county road 200 West south of county road 300 North when he hit an object in the road.
The car, registered to Jacob C. Lemaster, 206 Walnut St., went off the east side of the road and hit a tree on its passenger side.
Damage in the 8:10 a.m. accident was estimated between $5,000 and $10,000.
