Link, Williams propel East Jay
Gabe Link and Brian Williams nearly beat the Indians by themselves.
Thankfully for them, their teammates helped get the victory.
Link scored 16 points and Williams added a dozen on Tuesday as the East Jay Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team blasted Union City, 54-34.
The Chief seventh grade squad lost, 37-17.
East Jay’s eighth graders led 21-16 at halftime, until a 16-point effort in the third quarter and 18 points in the fourth put the game well out of reach for the Indians.
Noah Arbuckle followed Link and Williams with seven points, while Gavin Lambert and Sheldon Upp both tallied four points.
Brayden Sprunger, Brandon Cramer and Alex McFarland had three points apiece.
Landon Grimes and Brian Zhang paced the seventh graders with three points each. Griffin Mann, Nicholas Fields, Brody Auker, Bailey Cox and Drake Imel all tallied two points.
Both teams are now 2-4 on the season.
WJ girls top AC
DUNKIRK — West Jay’s eighth grade girls basketball team picked up a 34-18 victory Tuesday against Adams Central.
The WJMS seventh graders fell 30-12.
Hallie Fields had 13 points and seven rebounds to lead the Eagle eighth graders. Allison Jobe added six points, two rebounds and four steals. Nevaeh Cox notched five points and Grace Morgan tallied two.
Lilli Clemmons and Abbi Kuss had four points each for the seventh grade Eagles. Sophia Fugiett and Morgan had two points apiece. Ashlyn Denney recorded five rebounds and three steals.
Eagle boys fall
MONROE — Despite a 12-point third quarter, the West Jay seventh grade boys basketball team lost to Adams Central on Tuesday, 24-18.
The eighth grade Eagles also dropped its game, 27-23.
West Jay’s seventh graders fell behind 14-3 at halftime, but scored a dozen points in the third. Its rally fell short in the fourth quarter.
Wesley Bennett had a game-high 15 points. Logan Brown added three.
Peyton Nichols and Trevan Vore had seven points each for the eighth graders. Dylan Bowler chipped in with five points and Brinnin Wasson tallied four.
FR sweeps Blue Jays
DELPHOS, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s seventh and eighth grade girls basketball teams both picked up wins Tuesday against the Delphos St. John’s Blue Jays.
The seventh graders won 44-28, and the eighth graders triumphed 26-14.
Hope Wendel had 15 points and 13 rebounds to lead the FRMS seventh graders. Elena Evers tallied 10 points to go with her seven rebounds, and Kierra Wendel had eight points and 11 rebounds.
Olivia Patch paced the eighth graders with 10 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Macy Day and Brooke Kalhlig had five points apiece. Val Muhlenkamp also had 10 rebounds to go with her four points.
