Patriot tankers defeat Knights

OSSIAN — Two days after being swept by Oak Hill, the Jay County High School swim teams both picked up wins.
The JCHS girls moved to 3-1 on the season with a 110-73 victory against the host Norwell Knights. The Patriot boys squad evened their record at 2-2 with a 115-70 win.
Sophie Bader, Anne Vormohr and Alex Bader were all double winners for the JCHS girls. Sophie won the 50-yard freestyle and the 100 breaststroke, Vormohr earned victories in the 100 freestyle and 100 backstroke, and Alex took first in the 200 and 500 freestyle races.
Vormohr and Alex Bader joined Jamie Valentine and Cassie Reno to win the 200 medley relay. Alex and Sophie Bader teamed with Elizabeth McDowell and Ashley Mark to win the 400 freestyle relay, with Mark, Reno, Vormohr and Sophie Bader winning the 200 freestyle relay.
Mark also earned an individual victory in the 100 butterfly, and was 16 hundredths of a second away from another win in the 200 individual medley.
Heather Stinson beat three of her teammates to win diving.
Sok Vormohr was the lone double winner for the JCHS boys. He won both the 50 and 100 freestyle races.
Christopher McDowell (200 freestyle), Travis Barton (100 butterfly) and Christian Phillips (diving) also won events for the Patriots.
Thomas Boozier, Garrett Campbell, Jason Minnich and McDowell won the 200 medley relay, Barton and Minnich joined Connor Daniels and Vormohr to win the 200 freestyle relay, while Barton, McDowell, Daniels and Vormohr won the 400 freestyle relay as well.

Tribe wins
FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s girls basketball team improved to 3-1 on the season Thursday with a 51-36 victory against the St. John’s Blue Jays.
The Indians (3-1, 2-0 Midwest Athletic Conference) led 14-6 after the first eight minutes and pushed the advantage to 25-15 at half. The Tribe then exploded for 17 points in the third quarter, and outscored the Blue Jays (2-3, 1-1 MAC) by a 10-8 margin in the final period for its second consecutive MAC win.
Senior Kendra Siefring was 5-of-7 from the field and 7-for-8 from the free-throw line to lead all players with 17 points. Sophomore Carley Stone followed with 15 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Siefring and Stone also led the way in rebounds with five and four respectively.
Jocelyn Kaiser added seven points, and Whitney Will tallied six.
Madilynn Schulte led St. John’s with 12 points.

SA still perfect
HUNTINGTON — The South Adams boys and girls swim teams remained perfect Thursday with a win against the Huntington North Vikings.
The Starfire girls are now 6-0 on the season after defeating the Vikings 119-50. The SAHS boys won 110-56, improving to 4-0.
Freshman Ashley LeFever was the only double winner for the SAHS girls. She won both the 50- and 100-yard freestyle races.
Riley Thompson took first in the 200 freestyle, Ashton Klopp won the 100 butterfly, Brette Klopp earned a victory in the 100 backstroke and Audrey Burson beat the competition in the 100 breaststroke.
Daniel Burson and David Steffen both won two events apiece for the Starfire boys. Burson was victorious in the 200 and 500 freestyle races. Steffen won both the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly.
Zach Colpaert (100 freestyle) and Zach Teeple (100 backstroke) also won their respective races.
JC freshmen win
Wyatt Gessaman scored a game-high 17 points Thursday as the Jay County freshman boys basketball team defeated Winchester, 41-32.
Geesaman had six points at halftime, scoring 11 points in the final 14 minutes to help the Patriots (4-0) outscore the Golden Falcons 20-14 in the second half.
Parker Grimes and Gabe Faulkner had eight and six points respectively for the Patriots. Gavin Randall followed with five points, and Matt Franks added three. Xavier Ninde had two points.

Stuber leads
MONROE — Joe Stuber scored 15 points Thursday, helping the South Adams freshman boys basketball team to a 31-24 victory against Adams Central.
Grant Besser followed Stuber with eight points, and Mason Sell tallied four points.
Dario Banuelos and Josh Price each contributed two points.
The Starfires move to 2-2 on the season.

LeFever honorable mention
Drew LeFever of the South Adams football team was given all-state honorable mention as a linebacker in Class 2A by The Associated Press.
The senior led the Starfires (1-9) with 76 total tackles, including 11 1/2 tackles for loss. He also had 1 1/2 sacks, forced five fumbles and recovered four fumbles.
LeFever also led the team in rushing with 451 yards on 115 carries. He scored three touchdowns.
