Theft
A Portland woman was arrested at 2:18 p.m. Sunday for theft from Dollar General, 220 W. Lincoln St., Portland.
Haley J. Dixon, 21, 605 W. High St., was arrested for theft by borrowing, a Level 6 felony.
She was booked to Jay County Jail and is being held on a $3,000 bond.
Lights stolen
A Portland man reported his Christmas lights stolen at 4:39 p.m. Sunday.
Jeffery Crown, 403 W. High St., told a Portland police officer his projector lights were taken Saturday evening. They are estimated to be worth $50.
Deer accident
A Pennville man’s truck hit a deer at 7:28 p.m. Sunday on Indiana 18 in Jackson Township.
Eric L. Klarer, 37, 675 S. Sherman St., told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was traveling east on Indiana 18 near county road 375 West when six deer entered the roadway. Klarer said he slowed down to avoid hitting any animals with his 2003 Ford F-150 but one deer darted back across the road. He said he could not avoid striking the animal with his truck.
Damage is estimated to be less than $1,000.
Deer collision
A Rochester woman’s truck struck a deer at 8:15 p.m. Friday on Indiana 67 in Bearcreek Township.
Stacy L. Smith, 47, 508 Mitchell Drive, Apartment 6, told Jay County Sheriff’s Office she was traveling east on Indiana 67 near county road 450 East when a deer crossed the road. She said she could not avoid hitting the animal with her 2011 Dodge Ram.
Damage is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Deer crash
A Portland man was involved in a deer accident Sunday on county road 300 North in Greene Township.
Richard E. Rook, 60, 37 Sesame St., told Jay County Sheriff’s Office he was driving west on county road 300 North near county road 450 West when a deer ran into the roadway. He said he could not avoid hitting the deer with the 2011 Dodge Caliber he was driving, causing damage to it.
The Caliber is registered to Trudy F. Rook, same address.
Damage in the 7:21 a.m. crash is estimated between $1,000 and $2,500.
Right angle crash
Two Portland drivers were involved in a crash at 9:16 a.m. Friday in the parking lot of Pak-A-Sak, 1300 N. Meridian St., Portland.
Gregory A. Miller, 51, 1237 N. U.S. 27, Lot 33, told a Portland police officer he was driving his 1997 Ford F-150 away from a gas pump and did not see a 2008 Ford Edge leaving the lot. The F-150 collided with the Edge, driven by Leroy A. Goss, 65, 5337 E. 800 North.
Damage is estimated between $2,500 and $5,000.
Sideswiped
A car driven by a Geneva woman was sideswiped by a semi rig about 6 p.m. Wednesday on U.S. 33 near its intersection with U.S. 27 in Adams County.
Between $1,000 and $2,500 was reported when the semi driven by David D. Brown, 56, Springfield, Ohio, came in contact with a car driven by Jackquelyn B. Gerber, 54, Geneva.
Mercer accident
Two were injured in a one-car accident Dec. 5 on the Mercer-Darke County Line Road, east of Coble Road in Mercer County.
A 2013 Chevrolet driven by Joshua Moles, 22, Fort Recovery, was eastbound when he lost control of the vehicle and it went into a creek.
Moles and a passenger in his car, Kevin Roberts, 37, Anna, Ohio, were taken to Wilson Memorial Hospital, Sidney, for treatment of their injuries.
