CR edition shifts due to Christmas holiday
Business Roundup
The Commercial Review will be adjusting its publication schedule next week due to Christmas.
There will be no edition published Friday.
The Dec. 26 issue will appear as an afternoon edition, with delivery expected sometime after noon that day. Normally, the Saturday paper is a morning edition and requires staff to work Friday night.
The change is being made, publisher Jack Ronald said, to avoid having any company employees working on the Christmas holiday.
The Commercial Review will follow the same publishing schedule the following week, with no paper on New Year’s Day and an afternoon edition on Jan. 2.
Idling two
Allegheny Technologies Inc., parent company of Portland Forge, is idling two of its Western Pennsylvania steelmaking plants and has cut its quarterly dividend.
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported ATI is cutting the dividend to 8 cents per share from its current level of 18 cents. The company will close its plant in Beaver County and a sheet steel plant in the Alle-Kiski Valley.
“Demand for our standard sheet products is showing no signs of sustainable improvement as we head into 2016,” ATI’s chairman, chief executive officer, and president Rich Harshman said in a prepared statement.
Harshman blamed a flood of imported steel from China as part of the problem.
ATI has been involved in a lock-out with the United Steelworkers in Pennsylvania since August.
College help
Pizza Hut has announced plans to help its employees pay for college.
Under its “Life Unboxed EDU” employees will receive a 45 percent discount on undergraduate tuition at Excelsior College, an online university.
Up for merger?
Norfolk and Southern railroad, which has rejected two previous merger offers from Canadian Pacific, has now received a third.
Canadian Pacific said this week it would add a payment depending on the stock price of the newly-merged railroad.
Virginia-based Norfolk and Southern, which has rail lines crossing Jay County, has shown no interest in a merger. But officials at Canadian Pacific are apparently committed to the concept.
CVS scores Target
CVS and Target Corp. announced this week they had completed a $1.9 billion deal that will transfer Target’s pharmacy and clinic business to CVS. A total of 1,672 pharmacies in 47 states will re-brand as CVS as a result of the transaction.
The company this week also increased its quarterly dividend by 21 percent to 42.5 cents per share.
Axle featured
Moser Engineering’s new PRO Extreme axle has been in the spotlight this month at dragzine.com.
The axle is designed and engineered to handle huge amounts of horsepower.
