Grimes nets 20 in Chief win

PONETO — Landon Grimes scored more points than the Raiders.
The rest of the Chiefs helped put the game out of reach.
Grimes totaled a game-high 20 points Thursday as the East Jay Middle School seventh grade boys basketball team dominated Southern Wells, 51-11.
The eighth grade Chiefs lost, 39-15.
Drake Imel added 10 points in support of Grimes as the EJMS seventh grade squad (4-5, 3-1 Allen County Athletic Conference) had an 11-1 lead after the first quarter and pushed it to 27-4 at half.
An 11-point effort in the third quarter made the score 38-7 East Jay heading into the final period.
Brody Auker and Nicholas Fields followed Grimes and Imel with six points each. Bailey Cox added four points and Gio Perod tallied three points.
Cameron Henry had a team-high five points for the eighth grade Chiefs (3-6, 2-2 ACAC).
Gabe Link chipped in with four points, with Charlie Brunswick and Gavin Lambert adding two points each.
Miles leads EJ
Natalie Miles poured in 19 points Thursday, leading the EJMS seventh grade girls basketball team to a 27-19 victory against Southern Wells.
The eighth grade Chiefs also won, 19-13.
Grace Saxman, Aubrie Schwieterman, Pacie Denney and Alana Kunkler each had two points for the seventh grade Chiefs.
Mikele Suman and Macey Weitzel had six points apiece for the Chief eighth graders. Taylor May followed with three points, and Shadie Canterbury and Anhely Montes both scored two points.
Eagles fall to Driver
DUNKIRK — Brinnin Wasson and Trevon Vore had 13 points each Thursday as the West Jay eighth grade boys basketball team fell to Winchester Driver, 48-33.
The seventh grade Eagles also lost, 44-26.
Dylan Bowler and Storm McLaughlin scored three points apiece in support of Wasson and Vore.
Peyton Nichols added one point for the eighth graders.
Drew Powers scored 11 points to lead the seventh grade Eagles. Logan Brown followed with seven points, and Wesley Bennett chipped in with five. Lane Chapman and Riley Foster had two and one point respectively.
Fort wins
FORT RECOVERY — Fort Recovery’s middle school girls basketball team dismantled Mississinawa Valley in a 50-9 victory Thursday.
The Indians led 8-0 after the first quarter, then ballooned the advantage to 23-2 at halftime.
They pushed the score to 37-4 heading into the fourth quarter for the lopsided victory.
Kierra Wendel led the way with 11 points for Fort Recovery. Olivia Patch had nine points and Val Muhlenkamp chipped in with eight points and eight rebounds.
Macy Day and Brooke Kahlig tallied six points apiece.
