No. 4 Kohler wins at Twin Lakes invite

MONTICELLO — As a sophomore, Andy Kohler finished sixth at the Twin Lakes Invitational.
He was runner up during his state-qualifying junior season.
This year, he’s a champion.
Kohler, a Jay County High School senior who is ranked fourth in the state at 182 pounds by IndianaMat, moved to 17-0 on Saturday with a tournament title at the Twin Lakes Invitational.
He led the Jay County Wrestling team to 157 points to tie with Peru for fourth place. South Bend Riley repeated as team champion with a total of 219.5. Frankfort was second with 160, one point ahead of third-place Delphi.
After pinning Mason Lipp of Carroll in the opening round, Kohler earned back-to-back technical falls over Winamac’s Trevor Bitterling and Drake Heitz of Northfield to reach the championship match. He then knocked off Alex Ragains of Frankfort by decision for the title.
Kaimen Sanders (120) and Dallas Dudleston (132) finished second in their respective weight classes. Sanders is now 11-6 on the season, while Dudelston is 14-3.
Tyler Leonhard (152), Levi Hummel (170) and Gaven Hare (220) all finished fifth, Ian Liette (106), Colton Compton (138) and Ivan Hemmelgarn (160) were sixth, and Max Schmit (195) was seventh.
The Patriots host the East Central Indiana Classic at 9 a.m. Tuesday.
SA boys win
BERNE — The South Adams boys basketball team used a 16-point fourth quarter Saturday for a come-from-behind victory against the Parkway Panthers, 39-33.
It was the second win in as many days for the Starfires (4-3).
Parkway nabbed a 16-12 advantage after the opening quarter and pushed it to 23-17 at halftime. The Panthers and Starfires went point-for-point in the third quarter, but an offensive burst and stellar defense in the final period gave the home team the win.
Justin Nussbaum led the Starfires with 13 points, including a 7-for-10 effort from the free-throw line. He also had a game-high 11 rebounds. McGerran Clouser was second on the team with nine points, and Marcus Teeter added seven.
The SAHS junior varsity team also won, 47-40. Nick Wurster led the way with 11 points, and Lars In’t Groen chipped in with 10.
Stars 2-3
NEW CASTLE — South Adams’ wrestling team went 2-3 Saturday at the New Haven Invitational.
The Starfires started out with back-to-back losses against Muncie Central (56-21) and Eastern (48-36) before notching consecutive wins over Hagerstown (42-36) and Northeastern (42-12).
South Adams ended the dual tournament with a 66-15 loss to the host Trojans.
Wyatt Miller and Isaiah Baumgartner both went 4-0 on the day. Briar Goodwin was 3-2, with Brandon Wynn, Corbin Blomeke and Logan Hicks all totaling two wins and two losses.
Trey Kongar finished 2-3, and Drake Deitsch was 1-4.
