Quartet leads Jay to invite title

CONNERSVILLE — Four swimmers combined for 10 victories.
It provided the Patriots with an invitational championship.
Jay County High School’s girls swim team won all but two events Saturday in claiming the top spot at the Connersville Invitational.
The Patriots scored 336 points to blow away the host Spartans, who were runners-up with 267 points. Centerville was third in the six-team meet with 253 points.
Connersville’s boys squad won the team title with 362. Jay County totaled 277 points for second place, and Centerville was third with 173 points.
Ashley Mark, Sophie Bader, Anne Vormohr and Alex Bader had their hands in all 10 victories for the JCHS girls.
First, the quartet teamed for a win in the 200-yard medley relay (1 minute, 58.2 seconds), then were later victorious in the 200 freestyle relay (1:46.06).
Individually, all four of them won two events each. Mark earned the top spot in both the 200 individual medley (2:29.97) and 500 freestyle (6:00.06). Sophie Bader won the 200 freestyle (1:59.99) and 100 butterfly events (59.85 seconds), and her sister Alex was victorious the 100 freestyle (57.8) and 100 breaststroke (1:11.5). Vormohr won the 50 freestyle (24.92) and 100 backstroke (1:00.49).
Sok Vormohr was the top swimmer for the JCHS boys, finishing second in both the 50 and 100 freestyle races in 24 and 52.98 seconds respectively.
Christopher McDowell earned a pair of third-place finishes in the 200 and 500 freestyle races. Christian Phillips (diving) and Ian Reynolds (100 backstroke) also finished third.

Two place 2nd
FORT WAYNE — A pair of Patriot wrestlers finished second in their respective weight classes Monday at the Carroll JV Invitational.
Logan Drumm and Chandler Chapman were runner-up at 138 and 145 pounds respectively. Placing third were Nick Lykins (132) and Dustin Minnick (138), while Jordan Schricker (152) and Daniel Ostrowski (170) were both fourth.
Mitchell Ferguson (132), Tyler Lowe (195) and Dawson Seyler (220) all finished fifth, and Simon Brumfield (HWT) was sixth.
There were no team scores.

Tribe freshmen lose
RUSSIA, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s freshman boys basketball team fell to the Russia Raiders on Monday, 39-29.
Derek Siefring led the way for the Indians (0-2), tallying 15 points in the loss. Clayton Pearson chipped in with eight points, and Braydon Schoen tallied three.
Mason Will and Noah Lennartz had two and one point respectively.
