Students of Month named
Taking Note
West Jay Middle School named its Students of the Month for December.
In sixth grade was Alaina Weaver, the daughter of Philip and Amy Weaver.
In seventh grade was Justice Murphy, the son of Jason and Cindy Murphy.
In eighth grade was Makayla Templeton, the daughter of Darrell and Jeanette Templeton.
Walking class
The Purdue Extension Office of Jay County is offering a free “Walk Indoors” exercise class through the Nutrition Education Program beginning Jan. 5.
Classes will meet from 9 to 10 a.m., noon to 1 p.m. and 5 to 6 p.m. for five weeks.
Each session will include samples and recipes for healthy snacks and participants will receive a copy of the “Walk Indoors” DVD.

Library event
Jay County Public Library, 315 N. Ship St. in Portland, will have Make It/Take It Crafts between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.
The library is closed Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, will close at noon on Dec. 31 and will not open Jan. 1.
