Jay County Public Library to have healthy programs

Jay County Public Library is starting out the New Year on a healthy note.
January is Health & Wellness month at the library and several programs are scheduled to go along with the theme.
Kristi Henry will present Essential Oils: What are they and how do you use them? The program will begin at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.
Massage therapists Madonna Duran and Emily Graber will speak at Coffee & Conversation: Massage for therapy and relaxation at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 6 and Exercise at Every Age will begin at 11:30 a.m. on Jan. 20,  with Dave and Jamie from Jay Community Center.
Power of Creative Energy will begin at 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 11. Participants will create a book flower.
Cookbook Club will meet at 6:15 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 11. Bring a healthy dish and recipe to share.  
Body, Mind & Soul: finding the healthy balance in all parts of your life will be presented by Pastor Paul VanCise of Bryant Wesleyan Church at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 12.
Arthritis & Exercise will be presented by Brian Ison, physical therapist at  Jay County Hospital, at 1:30 p.m. on Jan. 20.
 
Check given
The Indiana Fraternal Order of Police Foundation, Inc. recently presented a check for $2,000 to Portland Police Officer Michael Theurer to help with expenses while he is off work. The check was presented by Fraternal Order of Police J & B Lodge No. 102 of Jay, Blackford and Randolph counties and the funds came from F.O.P. members throughout the state.

Walking class

The Purdue Extension Office of Jay County is offering a free “Walk Indoors” exercise class beginning Jan. 5.
Classes will meet from 9 to 10 a.m., noon to 1 p.m. and 5 to 6 p.m. for five weeks.

Fort takes first
Fort Recovery High School took first place in the MAC Scholastic JV Tournament held at Minster High School this month.
Team members are Nathan Weigel, Corey Will, Joachim Burkhardt and Lilly Wehrkamp and the coach is Patricia Lefeld.  

Plaque grant
The Adams County Historical Society was awarded a grant from the Adams County Community Foundation to purchase a historical plaque for the Gene Stratton-Porter home in Decatur.
Stratton-Porter and her husband Charles Porter lived in the home at 147 W. 2nd St. from 1886 until 1888 and their daughter Jeanette was born there.
