Bank service set to change
Business roundup
A Portland bank branch will change its services this spring.
MainSource Bank, 120 E. Main St., Portland, will halt its walk-up service April 1. The drive-thru at the location will continue to be open with the installation of a new interactive teller machine (ITM), allowing customers to do all their banking with a live video teller.
The teller will be available 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Firm hires
Bollenbacher & Associates has hired two new employees.
Jonathan Martin became a new member in August. He is a 2015 graduate of Ball State University with a master’s degree in accounting.
Abbie Alexander was hired the firm in October as an administrative assistant. She is a 2015 graduate of University of Northwestern Ohio.
Testing continues
Eastern Indiana WorkOne will continue WorkKeys assessment testing on Saturdays through March.
The cut-off date to register is 4:30 p.m. on the Wednesday prior to the test date. Testing at the Jay County WorkOne office, 107 S. Meridian St., Portland, will be offered Jan. 9, Feb. 13 and March 12.
Testing will also be available in Hartford City, Winchester and New Castle.
Those who take the test can earn a National Career Readiness Certificate. There is no cost for the test.
Two hired
State of the Heart Hospice, which has a location in Portland, has hired a new business director as well as a new nurse.
Laura Retter, who has experience in marketing and business development with non-profits and media publishers, will be the new director of business development for the agency. Tammy Grieshop, a licensed state tested nursing assistant who has a B.A. in Healthcare Administration in long-term care, will be a hospice aide at State of the Heart’s Coldwater, Ohio, location.
Manager named
Jenliee Bransteter has been named Berne branch manager for First Bank of Berne.
Bransteter previously served as vice president and business banker at the Berne location. She is a graduate of Ohio State University and joined the First Bank of Berne staff in 2007.
Marsh to grow
Marsh Supermarkets, which operates a store in Portland, has announced plans to expand.
CEO Tom O’Boyle said the company will add about 13 new stores in the next three years — three in 2016, five in 2017 and five in 2018 — and will update 52 of its 73 existing stores. He said the company is also looking to acquire other grocery stores.
“We are being really aggressive and looking for potential acquisition partners,” he said.
The Portland location was re-branded from a MainStreet Market location to a Marsh store this year.
Offer refused
Norfolk Southern Railway rejected a third buyout offer, this time for $31 billion, from Canadian Pacific Railway.
Southern’s board unanimously rejected the bid Wednesday, calling it “grossly inadequate” and saying it wouldn’t pass with regulators.
Norfolk Southern has rail lines crossing Jay County.
