Patriot cagers end with victory

Jay County High School’s girls basketball team finished its regular season with a 33-25 victory over the visiting Delta Eagles on Thursday.
The Patriots (18-5) survived a lackluster opening half, as they took a 11-10 lead into halftime.
But seven points from Taylor Homan and four from Abby Wendel helped the home team pull away in the third.
Homan, who finished with a game-high 13 points, scored eight points in the second half. Wendel followed Homan with six points, and Catherine Dunn and Bre McIntire both added five points.
Lyla Muhlenkamp and Ava Kunkler had two points apiece.
Jay County more than doubled its win total from last season (13), and won more games than the last two years combined (15). The team won 18 games for the first time since the 2008-09 team went 18-1 and was undefeated through the regular season.
The Patriots open sectional play against Huntington North at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Homestead.

Fort Recovery (12-5, 3-4 Midwest Athletic Conference) trailed 31-28 heading into the fourth quarter, but went just 2-of-7 from the field and Minster (11-5, 6-2 MAC) made 12 of its 13 free throws in the final quarter to get the victory.
Tori Lennartz and Grace Thien each had 11 points to pace the Indians, and they grabbed five and four rebounds respectively. Whitney Will added five points, and a block, and Kendra Siefring tallied three points. Cassidy Rammel had a game-high three assists.
Logan Arnold led the Wildcats with 11 points.

Jay freshmen win
UNION CITY — A big second quarter helped the Jay County freshman boys basketball team to a 29-12 victory Thursday against the Union City Indians.
Jay County (9-4) held the Indians without a point in the second period, while scoring nine points for its most productive quarter of the evening. The Patriots led 15-2 at halftime.
Union City fired back in the third, outscoring Jay County 7-6, but its first-half deficit was too much to handle down the stretch.
Max Moser led the Patriot offense with 10 points. Connor Davis chipped in with eight points, and Garrett Rodgers tallied seven.
Jordan Stultz and Collin Haines had two points apiece.
