Play auditions to be held in March
Taking Note
Auditions for Jay County Civic Theatre’s production of “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” are set for 6:30 p.m. on March, 9, 11 and 12 at Arts Place in Portland.
Characters range in age from young children to grandparents.
The production will feature the songs from the classic film.

To kick off National Engineer’s Week, the documentary film “SlingShot” will be shown at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, at Southern Wells Jr.-Sr. High School Cafeteria, 9120 S. 300 West, Poneto.
The film is about Dean Kamen and his device to purify drinking water for developing nations and his passion for student robotics.
Tickets are $5.
Honored by Purdue
Numerous area students were among 15,000 Purdue University students who earned academic honors in the fall semester of 2014.
To earn honors, students must have had a 3.5 semester or cumulative grade point average on a four-point scale.
Among those on the honors list were: Jacob D. Lyons, Elizabeth B. Walker, Kelsey R. Wood, Stephanie J. Schwieterman, Julie L. Knapke, Katelyn E. Simmons, Whitney C. Hapner, Lindsey S. Marchal, Cheyenne R. Dull, Benjamin M. Knapke and Abbigayle N. Dunlavy, all of Portland.
Also honored were Brittany A. Crawmer and Sara E. Bollenbacher, both of Pennville; Kyler M. Blowers, Bradley M. Leuthold and Jill E. Dirksen, all of Bryant; Joshua J. Weaver and Brittany S. Vanzo, both of Dunkirk; and Shelbi J. Louck, Redkey.
Also honored were Jentry D. Flesher, Ridgeville; Eric A. Isch and Christian J. Myers, both of Geneva; and Adam R. Fullenkamp and Joshua B. Pohl, both of Fort Recovery.
