Schools set to celebrate FFA week
Jay County and Fort Recovery high schools have a variety of activities scheduled beginning Monday in celebration of National FFA Week.
The Jay County FFA chapter will play games of corn hole during lunch hours Monday.
Tuesday’s events will include a corn shucking contest at JCHS and a tractor drive-in at Fort Recovery. Prizes will be given for most horsepower, least horsepower, oldest, most hours, least hours, cleanest, best restored and most American. FRHS will also host greenhand initiation, with all 34 first-year members dying their hands green.
On Wednesday, Jay County students will compete in pedal tractor races, and FRHS will hold its elementary school petting zoo. The petting zoo will be open from 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. and is open to children second grade and younger.
JCHS will have a cow-milking contest on Thursday, and Fort Recovery will host its community breakfast and truck drive-in. The meal will run from 5:45 to 8 a.m., and prizes for the truck event will be given for newest, oldest, most miles, cleanest, dirtiest, loudest, sharpest and junkiest.
On Friday, Jay County will play corn hole again as well as have a contest for the nicest and junkiest trucks. FRHS will host its Ag Olympics with a milk chug contest, wheel barrel race, tire-flipping race, a three-legged race and a bale toss.
Jay County FFA members will also have a dress-up theme each day. That schedule is as follows:
Monday — Truck/tractor brand attire
Tuesday — Duct tape
Wednesday — Hillbilly/redneck
Thursday — Twins
Friday — FFA colors
Fort Recovery students will wear FFA T-shirts on Friday.
